The New 52 Villains Omnibus

Collecting all 52 Villains Month titles and their 3-D motion covers as well as the 3-D version of Forever Evil #1. It's scheduled to be released in December (or beginning of next year) and will cost about $199 (53x3.99=211.47). This complete set will have its very own 3-D motion cover by the way (click on it!):

Wouldn't it be cool if DC released a covers-only set for $52?

Well, that's it.

That was the Villains Months.

Didn't really get Gorilla Grodd 3D motion. I am happy to see Harley's. I didn't get to see what her 3D thing did. Thanks for posting.

@crazyscarecrow you're welcome! I wish there were animated gif's of all the 3-D motion covers and Villains Month titles respectively. These gif's are really nice; especially for comic readers who couldn't manage to get or afford to buy all the hard copies. The New 52 Villains Omnibus is a nice idea but isn't much of a bargain either. Besides, most of the stories are really lame and unnecessary (according to most reviews).

Luckily I'm quite happy with the ones I did get. :)

@donfelipe: I think the Villains Month comics were judged to hard. The only review I really believed were the ones of the Creeper (as it totally ruined what his character is suppose to be) and Joker's Daughter. Comic Vine gave that comic 1 star. Comic Vine has never given a comic that low of a score.

I was happy with the ones that I got too. Which ones did you get? I got Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, and H'el.

When it comes to ratings and reviews the Villains Month titles need to be judged harder. DC promised them to be different, promised them to be standalone issues that tell the reader more about these villains in the New 52. It's DC who did set the bar that high. The reader certainly expects more from special events like Forever Evil and Villains Month. I was super-excited for this and am not disappointed at all but the main question is were those stories necessary? Did they need to be told? In general? In regard to Forever Evil?

Here's what I did get (from best to worst read):

  • The Flash/The Rogues -- 5/5 stars (great code of honor, message, and story)
  • Swamp Thing/Arcane and Abby -- 4.5
  • Green Arrow/Count Vertigo -- 4.5
  • JLA/Deadshot -- 4.0 (surprisingly good story but average art)
  • The Flash/Reverse-Flash -- 4.0 (should have been even better; great 3D cover)
  • The Flash/Grodd -- 4.0
  • Batman&Robin/The Court of the Owls -- 3.0 (I get it the sun never shines in Gotham but still most panels were way too dark for my liking)
  • Batman/The Riddler -- 3.0 (I expected more from the title and didn't enjoy most of the riddles and that's what makes The Riddler)

Note: Everything above 2.5 is above average.

I may still get and read the two WW's and Batman/Superman's Doomsday. Edit: I meant Justice League's Darkseid.

Last not least, I did also read Forever Evil #1 (3.5/5 stars) but am not 100% sure whether I will continue reading it if I don't have to. I am intrigued following FE: Rogues Rebellion and really hope reading FE and the other tie-in mini-series won't be necessary though I will pick up FE #2 at least.

@donfelipe: I never really pay attention to what the companies say or I would never really enjoy the stories. They always go on how it'll be new and how it'll change the character FOREVER. The only thing I think about think about when I read it is "no dip the story will be new, doesn't take a genius that a story will change a character forever as it'll be part of the characters history." That's like me saying something has obvious as the comic will be drawn by artist. Anyway I am rambling somewhat.

From the titles I read:

  • Captain Cold- 5/5 (basically everything you said plus it actually got me thinking of buying their Forever Evil book. I told myself I wasn't going to get invested with that part of the Forever Evil!)
  • Penguin- 5/5 (never have really liked the Penguin or was excited to turn the page to read what was next until this issue)
  • Riddler- 4/5 (my favorite cover of Villains Month. The story was fun and good way for new readers to get to know the comic book Riddler)
  • Joker- 4/5 (many didn't like it. I loved it. I thought it was a hilarious idea. Plus Jackanapes was that gorilla Damian Wayne Batman faced in that Batman #666. Thought it was clever to bring him back as the gorilla. I like the stupid stuff)
  • H'el- 3/5 (liked the story and got me into the character a bit more. Plus Lobdell and Roccafort gave me the comic themselves and signed it for me so it makes it special to me. The only problem is that you'd really have to following the Superman title to know what was going on it seemed. If I wasn't reading the Superman title here and there I would have no clue what was happening.)
  • Gorilla Grodd- 3/5 (Hard to judge. Never was a huge Grodd fan. I like the story and the art, but it really affect me the way the other comics I bought did. Maybe I'll have to give it a reread.)

And I too might get a Wonder Woman. Originally I asked for my comic store to put a different pull list for the the villains I wanted (Scarecrow, Harley, Captain Cold, Riddler, and Lex Luthor), but they could only put the comics I subbed to on hold so I was only able to get the Batman, Flash, and Wonder Woman titles. Cheetah wasn't in yet when I got them (about 2 weeks ago), but I might get that.
