@abstractraze: I don't really pay attention to power scaling. It's pretty much a waste of time considering how often writers change the character's limits to tell their story. Don't get me wrong, when Catwoman one shots the flash it kills my suspension of disbelief, but by and large it doesn't really matter with upper echelon characters, especially semi-omniscent ones like Manhattan.
@mazahs117: I forgot Three Jokers was a book! That's how long it's been.
@mazahs117: Yeah, but he said that 19 months ago. Doomsday Clock began in 2017 even if it's a year ahead it was never meant to extend past Heroes In Crisis.
Start where you want. Arcs are usually only 4-5 issues so if you're in the middle it's not the end of the world. Most books get collected in trade paperbacks so match any hero you like with volume one and there's your starting point if you want to get caught up on a run. I'd also recommend following writers and artists more than actual characters because there's a good chance if you liked what they did with one of your favorite characters, you won't be dissapointed with what they do on a character you are less familiar with.
Tbh, the book has been stalled so many times that even if it was Doctor Manhattan it won't fix any of the continuity. Snyder's telling a different origin story in Justice League, Bendis pretty much retconned any connection Mr Oz has to Manhattan and Flashpoint Batman survived "the Button" because...reasons. They stopped mentioning Tim Drake and Mr Myx's abduction years ago. I'm pretty sure each of the top name writers at DC are doing whatever they want no matter how many times they contradict each other until their books stop selling and DC has to pull out another crisis.
I've always found the idea of there being only one set of new gods to be dumb. It actually makes Darkseid look weaker each time he fails to conquer earth if he technically fought all of the same superheroes before. Not to mention that it's turned most usage of the New Gods into continuity traps.
I think Katara suffers from being the straight foil for a bunch of vibrant characters. Even when she's great she's pretty bland next to personalities like Aang, Toph, Sokka, Zuko and even Jet. Korra doesn't have as much competition, so it's pretty easy for her to shine through the LoK series.
