I think it's really neat what they did with Ben Grimm. I love the cast, it's an interesting team.

That was Ben? Hard to tell, with the crappy art...

Nothing worth rushing out to get. I'll wait until these issues hit the bargain bins.

The art is <drumroll> painfully wooden. But seriously, Gwen and Peter look like posed action figures.

That joke should be uprooted. :-P

But you're right. It is hard to enjoy this series when the art is awful. I love all the characters too, which is what makes this series so painful.

Doesn't it depend on the powers?

For example, if you can shoot flames out of your eyes, that's nice, but it may not necessarily be useful if the flames aren't comparable to a flamethrower. And even if they are, what then? A bank robber is getting away, do you fry them to a crisp right there? Seems a bit harsh.

But let's assume you have a practical power(s). If you do fight crime, then you're a vigilante, and the police will arrest you on sight, if possible. Do you join the police force? That presents a whole lot of other problems, as soon as the bureaucrats realize they can regulate the use of your powers, and you have to comply.

By the way, don't think a simple mask will protect your identity. Eventually, you will leave some DNA behind at a crime scene. If they already have your DNA on file, you're screwed. On the other hand, it shouldn't be too long before forensic experts will be able to feed DNA into a computer and get a face from it.

Unless you're the Hulk, or something comparably overpowered, then governments will hunt you down mercilessly. You'd be stepping on their toes, and they don't like competition.

Use your powers for party tricks, and forget about crimefighting. You'll live longer and happier.

Tony,

I gave it 4 stars (still a good review).

One other thing about this series: I find myself liking Valeria more and more. I think she already knows the answers to the questions she is seeking, but she doesn't want to admit that Doom played her for a fool (she is fond of him). Sadly for Doom, Thanos knows those answers too, and he won't be nearly as easy to kill as Strange was.

Overall, a wonderful setup by Hickman, as I enjoy watching him moving the chess pieces around the board.

Marvel:
  • A-Force #3
  • Secret Wars #5

You nailed my Marvel picks perfectly! Especially A-Force, which has become "must-read" material.

Tony,

It’s a little hard to put my finger on just what it is about this series that simply makes me happy each time there’s a new issue.

I'll tell you what it is Tony: These characters are all basically honorable and good. There's no fuzzy areas like with the Avengers. There's no morally grey area with these characters. She-Hulk has reached the point where her character has matured into a perfect leader. When faced with what appears to be an injustice, you know in your heart that she will make it right somehow, even if it appears nearly impossible. Surrounding She-Hulk with a team of Marvel's best only makes this series just that much better.

Don't be surprised if in 10-15 years, we aren't talking about an A-Force movie.

It has been a long while since we saw a good-looking She-Hulk and not end up looking so weird for a change (I'm talking to you, Pulido!!!!!).

LOL! Too true!

Definitely looking forward to this issue. A-Force is the best thing to come out of this whole Battleworld/Secret Wars tangential storyline.

On one hand I wanted it too succeed because I like the way Fox normally handles it tone. It's not too humorous filled with jokes and laughs nor is too dark. It just has the right balance. However on the other I feel like a property like Fantastic Four would fit better in Marvel's hands not only that they would be able to use Silver Surfer and Galactus.

The FF has never really been "dark". This ain't Daredevil. If anything, the FF has always been a hopeful series, one where the good guys always win. They are from the Silver Age of comics, and it shows (although they were ahead of their time).

Interestig :)

And I hope there will be a lot off high school drama :)

And this let me to think about Buffy... oh... *_*

I was just about to make a Buffy comment. You beat me to it.

Speaking of Buffy, is Marvel so hard up for characters they have to blatantly rip-off someone else's character?
