Review: Uncanny X-Men 526 0

I feel like I should preface this review by stating that I’ve been longing for a new “power discovery” story for a while now. After watching G-Man’s interview with Matt Fraction, I was sold on this story since it sounded like exactly what I wanted. I was not disappointed. Pros: -Hope (and the readers) finally gets some answers about who she is. She learns more about one of her parents, along with meeting one of her relatives. I thought the entire journey for Hope to discover her roots was a well...

Review: X-Women 3

Pros -I must admit, I had low expectations for the story in this book going in. The focus on this book pre-release was on the art. I was pleasantly surprised at the solid story that Claremont detailed. -I never felt that the story lagged over the course of the book. There was a good mix of exposition and action. The story was a good stand-alone issue that can be a great introduction to some of the well known X-ladies. -Despite the nonsense about the art in the previous weeks, I really liked Man...

Review: X-Campus 1

Pros: -I’ll admit, I’m a total sucker for X-Men in high school. That’s why I enjoyed the X-Men Evolution cartoon, and also why I enjoyed this book. This book definitely left me interested in seeing Artibani’s interpretation of the X-Men at this age plays out. -This book was split up into two chapters. The first chapter did a pretty solid job of introducing the various characters and their abilities. The second chapter dealt more with Rogue’s interaction with Emma, Sebastian and their Professor M...

Review: Iron Man Annual 0

Pros: -This is an extremely tightly written story. I never felt that even a single panel in this book was wasted space. I was immediately sucked into the story and it didn’t let me go until I read the last line. I’ve read very few Iron Man books pre-Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man, so I really know very little about the Mandarin. I absolutely feel like I know everything I need to know about the character’s personality after reading this story. -The story hit all the emotional high and low notes ...

New X-Men 13 Review 0

The Good -I felt that Roberson’s art was a solid improvement over Dodson’s in the last chapter of Second Coming. I thought the Dani/Hope fight in particular looked really nice. -It was nice to see Hope finally stand up for herself. After the crap she’s gotten since she returned, I was quite happy to see her finally fight back. -It always makes me happy to see Cyclops unleash his optic blasts without asking questions. Considering his teleporters have all been taken off the board, it’s no surpr...

X-Men Forever 23 Review 1

The Good -This book is the culmination of what Claremont has been building towards since Forever began. The X-Men have finally reached the Consortium’s space satellite and are now fighting to prevent the eradication of mutants. -From the beginning, I’ve liked that Claremont hasn’t been tied down to preserve various characters for the sake of other books. He proved this early on with the death of Wolverine. This issue has a couple deaths of major players in most Marvel universes. I find it enjoya...

A Potentially Astonishing Mess 0

The Good -I must admit, I’ve never heard of Kaare Andrews. While reading this issue, I found myself having some of the same thoughts about the art that I did while reading through Morrison’s New X-Men run. Initially, I wasn’t a fan of Quitely’s art either. I could see some of Andrews’ art growing on me as I see more, but not without some changes (mentioned below). -I’m interested to see where this story goes. Are these babies in Africa really mutants? If not, just what are they? Who or what led ...

Uncanny X-Men 524 Review 2

I’ve had high hopes for Second Coming from the get go. If these last two issues are any indication of what’s left to come then this will easily become one of my favorite stories in all of comics. This issue wasn’t action heavy, but then again, it really didn’t need to be. The Good: -The story slowed down a bit. Without much on the action side, it allowed both the X-Men and the reader to take some time and reflect on the death from the previous issue. Considering how prevalent this character has ...
