Gang War Incoming 3
Spoilers in this review, look out! I'm reading all the Villain Month issues to give the newer reader perspective to see if these issues really draw in new readers. The Good:Scarecrow's overall plan is pretty fun to read even if a bit obvious, nice to see him deal with the various other Bat rogues. Riddler's appearance was especially fun for me. It's nice to see Scarecrow try and psychoanalyze everything. The Bad:This issue is really just set up for some gang war thing I'm probably not going to ...

Spoilers for this issue, yo. I'm reading all the Villain Month issues so I can give the new reader perspective. I know quite a bit about Ra's which is good because going in completely blind is a bad idea for this issue. The Good:This issue does a good job of showing the dread that Ra's bring to the table, he feels like a powerful ruler of an evil empire and it really works. His arrogant refusal to bow to the Secret Society also fits the character very well. Really the overall explanation of Ra'...

Not Stealing Much... 5
Spoilers in this review, you know the drill. I'm reading all the Villain Month issues for the new reader perspective. This issue is dealing with a new Shadow Thief(a character I already know nothing about) so we'll see if this issue can sell me on this new villain. The Good:This issue did indeed sell me on this villain. This new Shadow Thief is actually pretty interesting and while her anti-alien motive is stale it feels pretty organic. Also this issue does a fantastic job of showing why Shadow T...

The Muscle 8
Spoilers will be in this review, which I know all 3 of you Clayface fans will care about. I'm reading the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective. I'm not that familiar with the New 52 Clayface so we'll see if he wins me over. The Good:Clayface tries so hard in this issue and you just want to give him a little gold star for it. This issue does a good job of making up for how violent and mean Clayface is by pointing out that he's also basically an idiot. It's nice seeing a villai...

They should have called it...MEH 1
Spoilers for this issue on inside so look out. I'm reading all the Villain Month issues for the new reader perspective. Of course I know about Lex, but then again who doesn't? I was really looking forward to this one. The Good:Lex is certainly Lex, you get to see him slowly build up a plan piece by piece and then watch it all come together in a really tricky little way. Lex is also very in character here, being arrogant and smug and it's just fun to read him. It's nice seeing a day in the life ...

The name of the game is Zombies 2
This review will contain spoilers, no way around it really. I'm reading all the Villain Month issues for the new reader perspective. I've actually read Blackest Night so I know a bit about Black Hand and his new gig but I don't know what he's been doing in the New 52.The Good:I like the start of the issue when Black Hand is more confused and kind of wandering around. It's pretty good stuff, although I wish it had been used to explain Black Hand's feeling a bit more. There's a lot of interesting...

Past Mistakes 3
Spoilers in this one and all that. Reading all the Villain Month issues to give the new reader perspective, I know who the Rogues are and that they have powers now but that's about it when it comes to New 52 stuff. The Good:The Rogues have a code and they follow it pretty well here. They don't killed random civilians and they try and stick together. It's one of those little things that lets them stick out a villains. The arguments that drive this issue feel pretty natural and Captain Cold actua...

Other fish in the sea 6
There will be spoilers in this one for not only this issue but for Forever Evil as well. I'm reading all the Villain month books for the new reader perspective. I've got a good grip on Manta and I know his current status but that's about it. The Good: Manta's motivations are spelled out pretty well and made very clear. He's defined by vengeance and this issue really stressed that. His reaction to Aquaman's death was pretty well done, even if he didn't do that deed himself and I liked the way th...

Evil is real alright... 0
Spoilers for this comic will be in this review. For sure this time. So I'm reading all the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective. I'm not very knowledgeable on Trigon, but I know the basics. The Good: The art is nice. Trigon sure is evil here and his origin is neat for the most part. The Bad: This issue was a little too dark for me, I really could have gone without seeing piles of dead pregnant woman after hearing about how Trigon abducts and rapes random woman from different u...

Always loved monsters 1
There will be spoilers in this review so please make sure you read the issue first if you're planning to. I'm reading all the villain month issues so I can give the New Reader perspective. Most of what I know of Zod is from pop culture and not comics so it'll be interesting to see how he looks here. The Good: This issue's got a lot of good. It actually gives a good reason for Zod to act as violent and warmongering as he always seems to be and adds an interesting layer to his personal philosophy...

Traumatic Childhood: Overdrive 0
This review will probably spoil the crap out of this comic, so look out. I'm reading all the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective and I don't know anything about this new Reverse Flash. The Good:Exceptional art on this one. Seriously I love the style and when this issue does the villain month thing of showing the title it does it in a much better way than the other issues I've read. Reverse Flash's origins are explained pretty well and it's pretty good to jump into as a new r...

An average day of a world conqueror. 4
This review will contain spoilers so look out for that if you plan on reading this one. So I'm reading all the villain month issues and reviewing them to give the new reader perspective. The only time I've read Mongul was "For the Man who has everything" which was very good. But Mongul was hardly the best part of that story so we'll see if he's up to par or above here. The Good:A lot of these villain month issues have quite a bit of exposition but I think this one does one of the best jobs so f...

Jokes on you, readers 22
SPOILERS, and did I mention the spoilers? Because they're a thing here. Anyway I'm reading the Villain month issues to give the new reader perspective. Not the most knowledgeable on Harley but I think I've got a good grasp of the basics of her character. The Good:This is really hard for me. I don't hate this issue I just have trouble thinking of anything that really stood out as good about it. Everything was "okay" at best. I guess it does a good job of doing what it's trying to do even if I do...

The Slightly Well Known Man? 16
SPOILERS, not that it matters given how polarizing this issue has been and how much it's been talked about. So I'm reviewing the villain month issues to give a new reader's perspective and now I'm checking out Lobo who I have a decent amount of knowledge on.The Good:The art on this one is pretty solid stuff, really nothing to complain about. The action while not as brutal as I'm used to with Lobo is pretty good. There's one moment in this comic where it pulls off being dark pretty well, but sad...

The Cold Shoul-wait I used that one in another review 7
I'm reading all the villain month issues and giving the new reader perspective which is really good for this issue as I know almost nothing about Killer Frost. Oh yeah and there's spoilers in this review and stuff. The Good:I don't know what the consensus is on Frost's design but I really like it. The are here helps as aside from some stuff at the start of the issue it looks pretty nice. Frost herself has a very interesting dilemma in this issue and gives a perspective of the Forever Evil event ...

Collected all my emotion about this issue. 2
This review contains spoiler so look out for that. I'm reading all the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective. Today, Brainiac a Superman villain who I know a bit about but haven't ever really felt too interested in. The Good:Brainiac certainly feels like Brainiac, or at least the version of the character I'm used to. I sort of half like the idea that he enjoys what he does and only pretends to not enjoy it to keep up his cold exterior. His origin was solid enough giving a good...

The Owls aren't finished yet 5
This review will contain spoiler so if you plan on reading this one then don't read the review first. I'm checking out all the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective. I didn't read the original Court of Owls story or any of Talon so I'm going in pretty blind. The Good:I really like the art on this one, it's very dark and grainy looking but in a good way. I think it helps the issue stick out and creates a nice sense of style. The issue does a good job of showing off just how the...

The Cards are just right 14
This review has SPOILERS so look out for that. I'm reviewing all the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective but honestly I don't think that counts here. Riddler's always been my a favorite Batman villain and that's a big factor for me when it comes to this issue. The Good: Just about everything. Riddler is portrayed fantastically, he's as arrogant as he is intelligent, and as dangerous as he is insane. This issue gets Riddler's specific type of insanity perfectly. It also does ...

Origins introduced on a Monday 12
Spoilers for this issue are in this review so look out if you plan on reading it. I'm reading all the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective. I know that Grundy here is pretty different from the pre-Flashpoint version I'm used to and I know that last we saw he was on the moon so this should be interesting. The Good:I can't describe how much I love the simple genius of how Grundy got off the moon. Seriously it's a great way to start an issue even if a tad cliched. I also was sur...

The Cold Shoulder 9
SPOILERS ahead, don't look back now! So I'm checking out all the villain month issues to give the new reader perspective. Now I know quite a bit about Mr Freeze due to the character's popularity and well known origin. I also know that said origin has been changed and this issue adds more to said changes. The Good:The art for the most part was really nice in this issue. There was one face Bruce Wayne makes that felt kind of off to me but that's really the only eyebrow raising moment art wise. I ...

Stranded 0
Spoilers? Maybe. Probably, just be careful about reading this. So I'm checking out all the villain month titles and now it's on to Desaad a character I know little about who's been a book I haven't heard the best things about. So this should be interesting. The Good:Desaad is usually a character who isn't really associated with being powerful so it's interesting to see how far above a normal human he really is here. He completely wipes the floor with just about everyone and the sadistic way he b...

The New Cyborg 14
SPOILERS and all that. So I'm reading all the Villain Month books to give the new reader perspective and now it's time to checkout Cyborg Superman. I know a little about the Pre-Flashpoint version so let's see if this new version matches up. The Good:The art for this one is honestly my favorite part. The way the cyborg bits are drawn on Cyborg Superman and really the general detailing on the tech is really nice. The designs are also pretty cool on this one. We get a good idea on what influences...

New Origins of the Universe 5
Spoilers, you have been warned! So I'm checking out all the villain month issues to see how they look from the new reader perspective. Relic here is a new villain who I know nothing about so this should prove an interesting read. The Good:Making a villain that has a good reason to act like a villain is hard, most attempts are met with eye rolling from me but I think this issue does a good job of justifying why he acts like he does. Relic comes across as somewhat interesting and the old universe...

SPOILERS. SPOILERS. SERIOUSLY I SPOILER EVERYTHING AND I'M TERRIBLE ABOUT IT. So I'm reading all the villain month titles, continuing with the Bat books I'm checking out Poison Ivy, a character who I've always found vaguely interesting, although never really one of my favorites. The Good:So the flashbacks in this issue look great. Seriously the normal art is nice and all but I just love the look of the flashbacks. There's some nice action in this one and it does a great job of showing off just ...

A bland act 8
SPOILERS are most likely to pop up here. So I'm reading all the villain month books to see if they can draw in new readers and all that jazz. This should be an interesting one as I've never seen this version of Ventriloquist so there's a lot for this issue to show off. The Good:This issue does a very good job of showing off just what this version of Ventriloquist is capable of and it's some pretty neat stuff. She's certainly got more going for her than the previous characters to use the name. I...

Heads save Gotham, Tails make her bleed 7
SPOILERS almost certain to be in this review. So I'm checking out all the villain month titles and now it's time for Two-Face to shine. Heads this story is great, tails it's terrible. FLIP THE COIN!The Good:Something I've been noticing about these villain month titles is that they tend to get the villains actual character down pretty well and this issue is no exception. Two-face is as Two-Face as Two-face gets. We get a really nice look at how his personal brand of logic works and it's pretty i...

Monkey business 26
I am bad about spoiling things so I'm warning you now. Anyway I'm checking out all the villain month comics so let's see if the clown price of crime stands up strong compared to the other various rogues. The Good:The Joker does seem pretty Jokerish in this one and the plan certainly feels like the sort of thing the Joker would do. It's pretty silly all around, but I actually like that. The art is pretty solid with some little exceptions. The Bad:So the Joker gets a new origin in this one and it'...

Some of us are bullets 19
Spoilers yo! Seriously I can't block them and I'm pretty bad about blurting them out as is. So I'm checking out the Villain month issues to give the new reader perspective and seeing if they really draw me in like they're suppose to. The Good:Man this issue was fantastic, while the change in origin seems a little cliched at first it takes a good turn to a more interesting set up. Floyd seems to fun off of a strange set of values and it keeps the issue quite interesting as he explains his person...

Dizzy little story 17
Spoilers, maybe, I'm not sure, just it's best to assume they'll be here. So I'm reading all the villain month issues to see how well they do their job of drawing in new readers and now it's time for Count Vertigo to show me how great Green Arrow can be. The Good:So this issue was all origin and I think it did a pretty good job. Despite the whole "traumatic childhood" being a bit overdone for villains I think this issue does a pretty good job of keeping the whole thing interesting. The art is al...

King Grodd 7
Spoilers! Abandon all hope ye who enter here! So I'm checking out all the villain month books to give the new reader perspective and this is where I really hit a bump. I haven't been reading The Flash so I have no idea what the heck is going on. Keep that in mind as you read the review please. The Good:Grodd has always been a threatening character, being a huge telepathic gorilla and all, but he takes it to a new level here. This is a great showcase of what he can do as a villain, it hits every...

A natural disaster 21
Warning spoilers, yada yada yada and all that. So once again I'm checking out these villain month books to see their quality from a new readers perspective so I went into this one blind. Haven't read any Justice League Dark or Katana(where this version of the Creeper is from). That said I am familiar with The Creeper overall which certainly colored my perspective a bit to say the least. The Good:The art is actually pretty nice for this one and it's got some genuinely neat moments. I can see a l...

The God of Evil is back 7
Warning this review will contain spoilers and for some reason CV won't let me block spoilers in reviews. :(Anyway, I haven't been reading JL so I'm jumping into this one blind to test how well DC's gimmick really is at drawing in new readers while giving the more uninformed opinion on these issues. The Good:The one problem with writing Darkseid is that if you don't make him seem incredibly powerful or evil you sort of lose something with the character. This fact makes writing an origin story for...

Should have been named Lex Luthor 7
Note: This review will contain spoilers, but it's nothing big concerning the series overall, at least as far as I know. So this whole villains month seems to be another gimmick to attract new readers, so who's better than a new reader to check these issues out? I like a nice gimmick and I'm a little hyped up because I like Bizarro, so let's see how this issue fairs from my perspective. The Good:Okay on the positive side I really like Lex in this issue, he really feels like the scheming villain ...

This is how you do action 5
Special thanks to K4tzm4n and Mercy for recommending this one to me. As the stars show I really enjoyed it. The Art: The art for this was is pretty great the colors tend to pop really well, movement is conveyed perfectly, and the character designs are really well done. Everything about the art comes together for me. The fight scenes(which make up most of the book) are the real highlight as that perfectly conveyed movement is used to convey some great fights with lots of nice quick jabs, blocks,...

Pun about how vampires suck blood and the quality of this comic 7
Before anyone judges me I got a free digital copy of this off comixology so it's not like I spent money on it. Not that it means the comic is bad, so let's talk about it.The Art:Okay I'm gonna admit a huge bias here, I really like my comics colored. Or at least with some kind of tint to the coloring, anything but black and white. This comic is just in black and white and it really hurts the comic in my opinion. Just look at the cover, it pops really well and it's the reason I even check this one...

It was boring! 4
So I checked this comic out on a whim because I like cheesy fun ideas like the concept for this comic seemed to be. So how was it?The Art: The art for this one was pretty nice, it used a blue and white coloring scheme that gave the whole a nice classic B movie feel worked pretty well with the concept. The actual style was pretty nice and simple, kinda cartoony but that did fit the tone. The design for the mysterious robot was okay, although I wish it had been a little more cheesy looking for th...
