Animals, Creatures, and Monster Characters from Folklore, Legends, and Mythology in the Public Domain

A variety of characters from various sources appearing in folklore, legends, and mythology.

Some appear in my other lists as they are female or male in origin but all have some type of designation as being creatures. Some are tribes, some are teams, some are groups.

Most are evil, some are actually good and some are mercurial and exist to do the bidding of certain deities.

All are in the public domain and generally free to use.

This list will continually be updated and revised to include as many characters as possible.

Thanks for checking out the list and I hope it helps you in some way.

Nice list!

The image for Stheno represents many of the things I hate about comics. =)

@kuonphobos: Thank you.

Not certain what you may be talking about precisely but I assume because the main image for Stheno doesn't appear like the original Greek mythological origin? Is it because she appears "sexy"?

As these are all public domain characters, anyone can make changes to their appearance and stories.

Yet I can understand, if a monster character has a certain look to it, try to keep it that way unless you have a really unique and different take.

@decept_o: Exactly because the way Stheno is depicted like some cheesy "bad girl" character from the 1990s. SMH. =)

Gorgons should be depicted as hideous simply because their punishment was specifically aimed (at least in Medusa's case) at their great beauty.

My 2 cents worth. =)
