Top Ten Best Batman Villains

List items

  • A beautifully written villain who's narcissistic personality is incredibly entertaining. His obsessive nature is both fascinating and disturbing, creating an incredibly layered character. When written properly he can be a mastermind above all others who truly challenges Batman's intellect which is different from a physical or psychological challenge and I'd argue far more interesting.

  • His mystique is intriguing, his personality is entertaining and his sadism can be truly frightening. He's Batman's polar opposite in every way, his chaos matches Batman's order.

  • A beautifully written tragic character who could be any of us. Who knows how many of us would go to Victor's lengths if put in his situation. Easily the most relatable out of all of Batman's rogues.

  • Isn't it a villains job to push the hero too his limits in every way imaginable? Well Bane does that more than any other villain on this list. Bane is the man who broke the Bat.

  • A tragic character who's duality mirrors that of Batman's.

  • Whilst arguably not a villain any more there is no denying that she's a great character.

  • I will confess to not being much of a Ra's fan but the sheer quality of a lot of his stories warrants him a place here.

  • A tragic freak hounded by society, Croc's character is saddening. When written properly Croc is actually a foe with both brawn and brains.

  • Mad Hatter is very underrated. A diamond among masses of gold who somehow manages to go unnoticed.

  • Batman's ultimate psychological foe who unfortunately has basically no good stories. He's got masses of potential but seems to be ignored in favour of other villains by most writers.
