some of them are but it can be infrequent, most of the time Image is just pushing new properties...Spawn and Savage Dragon are still ongoing and Invincible

Probably Chew from Image and 100 Bullets from Vertigo.
Vertigo.

Excluding ongoings (as an ending is an essential part of a series) and excluding my favorite series of all time (because it will always be the answer otherwise):

  • Transmetropolitan (started as Helix but the Vertigo years were the best stuff anyways)
  • Battle Pope (even if it was reprints, it was colored for the first time at Image...most of their best stuff is ongoing)

Image is entering their Golden Age (in terms of quality/diversity, not popularity) whereas Vertigo peaked in popularity the same time Image did and hit the stage in its quality/diversity development a decade ago that Image is at now. So Image has the potential now to be what Vertigo was, but Vertigo is almost dead at this point and probably will fold in the couple years even if the few books it puts out are usually still amazing.

You're calling me a pleb because I picked Vertigo? O.o lol.
And you picked Transmet over Shade? Woah :o
I somewhat agree with Image entering a golden age, though most of its current series have been minis and nobody is really paying to their two most longest ongoings anymore that much. Also, their most popular series TWD and Invincible aren't hitting it in quality, a (good) story has an ending.
From what I've heard Vertigo is planning to do an anniversary relaunch of some sorts next year so there's that for your comfort.

I called you a pleb because you picked Chew as your favorite Image title. You are right, Shade would probably be my second favorite Vertigo series, hell, Y: The Last Man might even be my third or The Sandman...I've really never made a list and I should, I think I just wanted to have an excuse to say Transmetropolitan because it was on my mind at the time. I don't really have favorites with Vertigo, too much great stuff to rank it all against each other.

I think they are hitting a Golden Age because regardless of whether or not everything's the best, they are putting out a lot of great stuff and they are non-stop with new stuff coming out and all sorts of new ideas whereas all their stuff used to be of the same variety even if it was more popular then (just like Vertigo was most popular when most of its stuff was the same genre). I don't actually read enough Image to know if they compare to Vertigo's peak but they certainly have much more creativity and potential housed their at this specific moment then is at Vertigo right now.

For all we know, it'll just turn out to be a last hurrah and they'll cancel everything. They lost their momentum and I don't see it coming back when all the old creators are jaded over business at the company and all the new creators find a more welcoming home at more indie publishers.

Ledger's Joker? If the credits hadn't told you, you never would have known who the Joker was. He BECAME the character, and that's the highest praise I know if that can be given to the actor.

I also have to agree with this, I don't know enough Tom Hardy movies to speak of him but I always loved Heath Ledger long before The Dark Knight and like most actors he had some common character traits but you got none of that in The Dark Knight and I never would have known it was Heath Ledger and whereas I love him in a lot of other movies for the same reasons, as Joker it was a unique performance that was just great on its own.

@X~X~X: So even though spawn & SD appeared in some of the Invincible comics, they are not in the same universes?

nope, Savage Dragon especially gets lent around a lot, he even appeared in Robert Kirkman's Battle Pope before it was published at Image if I remember correctly...most of these creators at Image like each other though which is why things can work like that...but for example, when there was legal difficulties between McFarlane and Gaiman, certain issues of Spawn couldn't be reprinted and some stuff was all of a sudden treated as if it didn't exist in the universe

The Image Universe is HIGHLY underrated, I think they can hold a candle to both Marvel & DC tbh

The problem is they used to be about big name artists getting more money to do their thing and now it's about writers getting their properties out there but retaining the rights so I doubt too many people like both 90's and modern Image and that stops people from comparing them to Marvel and DC who have been doing whatever it is they do consistently for much longer than Image has even existed. Also, the image you use isn't actually all part of the same universe which is also a problem, DC and Marvel stuff is all set in the same universe because it's all owned by the same entity, these things are owned by different people and some of them have been published outside of Image over the years.

I don't enjoy family-orientated holidays.

aren't those all the actual holidays? do you hate the holidays themselves or the family element? because if it's the latter, just think of them as an extra day off of work and nothing more, that's what I do
