I think there have been some mutants who's parent where ok with it, for example; X-men Beast's parents where ok with it, and proud of him being a high school footbal hero Also Iceman's and Kitty Pryde's parents where ok with it (although the two did get into trouble because other people wanted to hurt/exploit them). Jean's parents weren't mad at her either, although she did have a trauma after she first manifested her powers when her childhood friend died. Also the whole Guthrie family (Cannonbal, Husk, Icarus and so on) was ok with their brothers/sisters/sons/daughters being mutants. Captain Brittan and Psylocke had a relative normal childhood i think, but they found trouble anyway as they got older. The 616 Mimic had no troubles either i think, going to highschool and whatever... Polaris also had a relatively normal childhood until Magneto found out about her.
That being said, i think it is indeed safe to say that most mutants had a terrible childhood after their powers manifested or at the moment they joined the X-men (Thunderbird dying, Illyana getting trapped in Limbo, Sunfire's father dying when he was manipulated by his uncle, the whole second X-men team (Vulcan, Darwin etc) either dying or traumatized. So to make a long story short, yeah, I agree with you :)
Cloak and Dagger are some amazing characters, only they have to be done 'right' to make them work. What do you think should happen to make it work? We've had mutants, drugs, polic officers turning ghostly.....what hasnt been done before?
Heroes should win most of the time, i think like 70%.....but if heroes should fail.....let the consequences be lasting.... and unfortunately that is not always what happens.
For instance, Civil War was amazing, Dark Reign was waaaay better then i expected....but then after Siege it was like...ow ok, registration act is gone....just like that... I found that too easy and too bad, cause there could have been many more stories in that climate.
And face it, at least in my opinion, most stories where the heroes lose (with lasting consequences) have become legendary.
I mean look at thing like Kraven's last hunt... Legendary because Kraven won, and after that killed himself....so Spider-man could NEVER beat him again.
The Death of Gwen Stacy, with Spider-man not saving the day this time to the person that was most special to him.
But also the Phoenix saga, in wich the Phoenix died.
So, let them win most of the time, but if they lose, let it stay that way.
You can also not have a giant entity eat up a world, or have people running around with a coat of metal around their bones....thats why there comics :)
