The Star Wars Lightsabers Explained

We all love Star Wars. I can't name one sci-fi fan who doesn't think Star Wars is awesome. It is a great tale of Good vs Evil set a long time ago in a galaxy far far away! It has many great heroes and villains, along with the best soldiers in military, whether they are the good guys or the bad guys. Then we have an open galaxy with a million planets to imagine, with remarkable creatures inhabiting them. Also, how could we forget about the laser blasting starships with amazing space battles and high-tech weapons? However, there is one item that heavily defines the Star Wars Saga. That's right! It's the Lightsaber! A weapon used by a Jedi or a Sith to help defend or cause chaos in the galaxy. However, there are so many different colours! What do they mean? Well, let me help explain them to you!

Blue Lightsaber:

Meaning: If you have seen the original trilogy first, you will notice that the Blue Lightsaber was the first Lightsaber to be be introduced. However, what does it mean? The Blue Lightsaber is the most standard Lightsaber among the Jedi which would mean whoever possesses the Blue Lightsaber would be associated with protection, consciousness and intellect.

Well Known Users: Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ben Skywalker, Anakin Solo, Plo-Koon, and Ki-Adi-Mundi

Green Lightsaber:

Meaning: The Green Lightsaber is the next standard colour. However, it is not more or less powerful than the Blue Lightsaber. It has been used by many Jedi Masters within the galaxy. However, what do they mean? They are powered by using the Light Side of the Force. The users of the Green Lightsaber would often be known as Peace users, meaning that they are associated with peace and harmony.

Well Known Users: Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Qui- Gon Jinn, Jacen Solo and Kit Fisto

Yellow Lightsaber:

Meaning: While this is not a popular choice by fans, Yellow is also often used by warriors. Although the meaning of the Yellow Lightsaber is unclear, one could assume they also signify protection as they're primarily used by guards to keep the Sith at bay while patrolling the galaxy.

Users: Plo-Koon, Yarael Poof and the Jedi Temple Guards

Red Lightsaber:

Meaning: Ah yes. The Red Lightsabers. The Red Lightsabers are wielded by the infamous Sith Lords. They are powered by the Dark Side of the Force. They are powered by many things that could lead one to the Dark Side. Stuff like hate, anger, vengeance, jealousy, fear and having the need for power. Whoever possess the Red Lightsaber is associated with evil.

Well Known Users: Darth Vader, Palpatine, Count Dooku, Darth Maul, Darth Craidus, Assij Ventress, Savage Oppress, Kylo Ren and many other Sith Lords or Dark Side of the Force users.

Purple Lightsaber:

Meaning: The Purple Lightsaber is very powerful. They are used by Jedi Masters who use both, the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force, while still remaining as a Jedi. Sometimes, the Purple Lightsaber is said to be used mostly by Sith-turned-Jedi. However, what does the power of the Purple Lightsaber mean? Whoever possess the purple Lightsaber is associated with the Light Side of the Force while also using powers from the Dark Side, and represent reformation or redemption.

Well Known Users: Mace Windu, Mara Jade Skywalker, Jana Solo, The Dark Woman, Kit Darren and Jaden Kor

White Lightsaber:

Meaning: The White Lightsaber are nearly rare. They are powered by the source of Light, which represents them being on the Light Side of the Force. However, whoever possesses the White Lightsaber is not a Jedi, but a once Jedi who uses the Force on their own terms to protect the innocent. Kind of like a vigilante.

Well Known Users: Ahsoka Tano and Imperial Knights

Black Lightsaber:

Meaning: Also known as the Darksaber. These Lightsabers are also extremely rare. However, that is because they are more powerful than the Red Lightsaber. They are fueled by hatred, anger, jealousy, vengeance, fear and having the need for power. These Lightsabers, which are also used by Sith Lords or users of the Dark Side of the Force, are heavily associated with and represent evil.
