God I was so bored by Amazing Spider-man 700.2, I was hoping that even though .1 was just a bland, by the numbers spider-man tale it would wow me somehow. Aunt May is my least favorite Spider-man character and I always used to feel she kept him from evolving as a character. Her first death in (ASM 400?) was well written and matured Peter. So any storyline involving Aunt May giving Peter some sagely advice Uncle Ben would say has worn me out. I get it. WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY. It's incredible advice. But it literally pops up in every goddamn comic these days. *sigh* This issue just made me appreciate SSM more. It may be written very obtusely, but it's a welcome change-up. Even though I liked what slott was slowly doing with Peter, making him less of a loser. JMS did such a great job evolving Peter and then BND just regressed him back into his manchild ways. I get it, he's the everyman. But the everyman isn't a totally loser that still eats his 1000 year old aunts PB&Js sans crust.

700.3 was dope though. The spider-man story I like, with Pete in a tough situation that inadvertently leads to him ending up in a worse situation where he uses his brains AND brawn to get out of. Also love me some Black Cat.

btw, I like how in the recent SSM she had a problem with Pete dating a short person. It is was less a prejudice than her having honest worries about Peters future (how his children would turn out, etc...) And while I don't condone that sort of thinking, it did give her character more of a personality. She's like a million years old, of course she's still going to have some old fashioned opinions.

Sorry, I just created an account and I had so much I've wanted to rant about for years.

Seeing what they've done to the Green Goblin and Electro in the new movie, there's no reason to be excited for a Sinister Six movie. Green Goblin and Electro look totally different, and while the original costumes from the comics probably look hokey to the majority of mainstream movie goers, that's what they look like to any of us who have been reading the comics for years. Why bother using these characters if they're going to change them so drastically?

And in defense of the new costumes in AS2, the film universe draws about as much from the Ultimate Universe as it is to the 616. Actually, this Electro looks pretty spot on the the Electro from USMs first Kingpin arc. And even though I love electros goofy, OG lightning bolt mask, there is no way that was going to end up in a film. He doesn't even wear the mask in the mainstream universe anymore. And we still don't know if Green Goblin is going to get a mask yet. And like another poster said, it's not just their costumes that make the characters.

RIP Scarlet Spider, you were a good series. You were even, dare I say it, a GREAT series. New compelling characters, storylines, and no major tie-ins made you an enjoyable, affordable time. The masses just weren't ready for a breath of fresh air in the world of Avengers, Batman, and "Superior" Spider-Nouns. And it was so soon after Venom passed on too.

Now go on, get out of here. And don't look back. I couldn't dare to let me see you cry.

Gotta say man, you have to check out the last nova series before this (2007-2010). I can't suggest this any more highly, it's incredible. And it really makes you appreciate this current series more, in my opinion. You can probably find some back issues for cheap at your local comic shop or comixology. (start with Nova: Annihilation) \

And Richard Rider was definitely less of a &*^(*&* than Sam is. I enjoy this series too, but there is just something so damn unlikeable about this guy. Issue 10 with all the callbacks to Rich brought a tear to my eye :,)

Yea, so check it out, Great review by the way G-Man. Long time stalker first time poster.

One of the best series around. Honestly can't say that I've read Rich Rider or w.e his name is but, if it was half as good as this book is, I can understand the heartbreak but not enough to deprive myself from this book. Hopefully New Warriors follows suit.
