The fact that he would spare Freeza while transformed the first time, when he distinctly lacked control over the state, contradicts that.

How do you think it went down? We know they couldn't touch him in power and we know that Frieza's ego wouldn't allow him to accept defeat. I'm sure that Goku wouldn't be dumb enough to risk letting earth be destroyed like namek. My guess is that it was one of the few times were Goku kills an enemy in cold blood(no pun intended).
