Nothing happened, right. Well, except the greatest scene ever involving Calendar Man. Plus a new bird in the nest. Plus a reinvigorated Batman handling things a little differently than in the past. Nothing happened, pfft, nothing better than a review by somebody who didn't read the comic.
Haha I read your post and was like "dang, that list is right, those really were the three most interesting things that happened, that might've been even worse than I thought."
Waste of money, nothing happens, nothing is set up. Lame Duke, lame Calendar Man, lame return to status quos. Should've waited for the first real issue, this clearly wasn't anything but fluff.
@lvenger: My guess is that DC is attempting to target a specific niche (kinda like how Batgirl of Burnside targeted young females and didn't care if it alienated adult males who enjoyed Simone's run) Ollie in the N52 (until Percy took over) didn't really target any specific group and didn't sell well, so I'm guessing DC is trying the opposite now. I bet if this doesn't sell they will tone down Ollie's political aspect again.
@dankhan6: I know he's an old leftie, that quote about "the government must do for the people what the people cannot do themselves" from JLU was an honest adaptation of Ollie's 70s progressivism and leftism. And undoubtedly all the conservatives in the US would have the same reaction as that Republican Senator's daughter in the preview. But what then, you're saying Green Arrow is supposed to be a SJW power fantasy?
Honestly yeah I'd say so. When Ollie gained his political views obviously SJW didn't exist as a term, but I do think he was meant to be an extreme personification of the left wing values at the time. So adapting him to this day and age would make him an extreme personification of SJWs, with his values updated to match that.
"I prefer the job description of social justice warrior."
Trust me Ollie, if you knew the first thing about that description, you'd drop your association with it faster than the Flash changes into costume.
Have you met old school Ollie lol? He'd be so down for the most aggressive definition of that term.
You sure about that? The fanaticism and downright Orwellian nightware of the regressive Left would surely be too much for Ollie?
I feel like people always want to assume characters they like have the same views as them or are at least moderate. I'm pretty sure all the righties would absolutely despise Ollie if he existed in real life. He's one of the most extreme political characters I've ever read about. And considering he's willing to go outside the law to enforce his left wing political views, he's much more fanatical/extremist than your average SJW. He also very rarely is willing to consider other view points.
@dankhan6: Hey I'm new here and I live in The Netherlands. How can you "trade" comic books? Btw, there's no comic comic bookshop near to my place so I have to order from a website.
By "trade" I meant I'm gonna wait for the collected edition, which they call "trade paperbacks". (Although I find lots of used bookshops in my city will literally trade comics, usually 2 of yours for 1 of their's, not sure if your used bookstores have comics)
The art has influenced how much I've enjoyed GA comics in the past few years, Sorrentino was a joy to read. This preview, combined with Oliver and Dinah reuniting, looks promising.
Agreed. I probably love that run more because of Sorrentino than Lemire honestly. And it's very, very rare that an artist can be the main reason I read a book.
