Sephiroth Respect Thread (Part 2)

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you... Shall I give you despair?"

For the best quality, switch to blog format.

Part 1 and Part 2.

Because the original became too bloated to contain it all in one place.

Covers Sephiroth, Jenova, and the Sephiroth Remnants because they're all ultimately similar, just that Sephiroth is the strongest among them and can replicate what they've performed.

I'm not pretending to make this for this website specifically, so standards of evidence may vary. I just happen to like the blog format here the best. As my intention is to be as complete as possible, regardless of your standards, I'm pretty sure you'll find something to use in here.

On what qualifies as a feat for the purposes of this collection? As video games seem to be one of those things that lack universal standards?

Things like HP, other stats, and status conditions are obviously gameplay and play no part in evaluation.

What's left of relevance then?

The animations and how they interact with the models are removed from the statistics used to determine game mechanics. In general, I prefer to take the animations and how they interact as being representative of their capabilities unless otherwise clarified to not be so by the developers. Repeated animations that couldn't feasibly be repeated aren't something to concern oneself with either. In consideration to disk space and internal storage/memory, its a bit ridiculous to ask for unique animations to the effect of preserving some arbitrary form of continuity when the animation just exists to represent what came to the development team's imagination.

Doesn't have to be your take, just happens to be mine and elsewhere.

Will/Mental/Spiritual Power Mechanics of FFVII

Here, here, here, and here, the Lifestream is the merged/convergent path of energy (Spirit Energy) of the consciousness/hearts/souls for all living things roaming the Planet. New life born with Spirit Energy and die to return it to the Planet (with some exceptions). Spirit Energy is what makes it possible for the planets to form in Final Fantasy VII. Without Spirit Energy, the planets cannot retain their shape and are destroyed. Shinra's use of Mako Energy will deplete the Lifestream over time and lead to the death of the Planet.

"It's full of the knowledge of the Ancients. No...not knowledge...consciousness...a living soul..."
"To an operative, nothing compares to the experience gained on the journey to SOLDIER 1st Class. Operatives tap into these past achievements to carry out feats otherwise inconceivable. In fact, without being able to recall such experiences, an operative would find himself unable to improve his skills."

The man could sense the Lifestream trying to erode his spirit– the memories of his former experiences, thoughts and emotions. If he allowed himself be taken into the current, the being he once was would soon disseminate and disappear amongst the spirit energy cycling around the planet.

Lifestream Black 1

Some of the people possessed wounds that even the materia Yuffie had couldn’t heal but, she was sure they would heal gradually if cared for well. The problem was Yuffie herself didn’t have the mental power. Materia was the crystallization of the Lifestream. To withdraw the power from the stabilized crystal, some form of shock is required and this is triggered by the mind waves of the user. As a result of that, the materia user’s mind is significantly weakened.

Limit Breaks

When your spirit energy rises to its ultimate limit, for a short while it aligns with and emits from your body. Furthermore, Zack is unusual in that he can copy Limit Breaks, such as taking Aerith’s “Healing Wind” Limit Break from FFVII and turning it into his Limit Break “Healing Wave”. In the same way, Cloud takes his Limit Break “Meteor Rain” from the original Limit Break Zack created based on him called “Meteor Shot”.

When the limit is reached, his sword is imbued with fighting spirit from the heart for just a moment. In the blink of an eye, 14 hits of damage are dealt one after another…. Cloud then dramatically leaps into the air and brings his sword down for the final slash.

Brandishing her right hand, she concentrates her fighting spirit into her clenched fist. With the fist that starts to emanate light depending on the amount of spirit energy gathered, she deals a massive blow to the monster! The spirit energy that is sent into the monster through her fist starts to destroy it from within, crushing it together with a big explosion.

After setting up the weapon to break the seal, she focuses her spirit. Before the eyes of the concentrating Yuffie, a large mass of spirit which glows violet, appears. After the spirit energy has formed up sufficiently, it is directed towards the enemy. The released spirit becomes an obi of light and shoots towards the enemy group, engulfing them.

Essentially?

The Soul = Will/Mind. Memories/Thoughts/Emotions are essentially the main power-sources in FFVII. The more heightened a characters emotions, the stronger that character will grow and perform.

vs Cloud Strife (Advent Children Complete)

"During all the battle scenes against Kadaj, I tried to keep Cloud's reactions to a minimum, only little grunts and noises. But for the fight scenes against Sephiroth, you'll notice that Cloud is breathing heavily, and he groans and grunts more often, showing just how difficult the fight is, how much more difficult it is for him to fight Sephiroth."
"Even during battle he talks with a calm, controlled tone. It's like he's transcended to another plane of existence... Even during battle, he's never short of breath; he's completely dominant in a way.

A nihilistic, reticent, former member of the Turks. While he was a bodyguard for ShinRa scientists, Hojo used him as a test subject in experiments that caused him to change into monsters (“Metamorphize”). The legendary demon “Chaos”, which resides in Vincent’s body gives him near immortality, and his appearance remains youthful, as if he is still in his 20’s from long ago. His marksmanship skills were unparalleled in his days as a Turk.

In Advent Children

When everyone wants to support Cloud, Vincent commands them to put their trust in Cloud’s hands. Not wanting to interfere, he believes that only Cloud has the power to destroy the curse from the past.

Compilation Check

The truth behind the 4th demonic transformation, Chaos.

Lucrecia gave Vincent secret reports that revealed the truth behind Chaos, the strongest of the four demonic transformations Vincent uses in FFVII. But why does Lucrecia give Vincent these reports? – The answer is revealed in Dirge of Cerberus.

Chaos was the unique lifeform that Lucrecia was researching, which possesses the ability to collect all living beings into the Lifestream. Therefore Lucrecia used this element to revive Vincent as he was approaching death and as a result granted him perennial youth. However, Chaos still posses a power so potent it could destroy the world and trying to suppress its power takes a great toll on Vincent.

[DC] The Ancient Materia is a special materia, and without it, Chaos goes wild.

[DC] DG snatches away the Ancient Materia from inside Vincent’s body, causing him to temporarily lose his sanity due to the awakening of Chaos.

FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania: Vincent Valentine Profile p068-071

Protomateria

Discovered by Grimoire Valentine at Chaos’s spring. Possessing antimatter-like properties, it is able to hold back Chaos’s emergence. Being that Chaos’s manifestation leads to the world’s end, it’s possible this materia exists so the planet can live a long life.

...

Chaos

A Weapon born from the stagnation of life. It appears when a planet is dying and takes up the role of harvesting all life. The harvested life is returned to the cosmos (sky) via Omega, the one who bears “the end name.” Presently, it dwells within Vincent’s body thanks to Lucrecia.

Crisis Core Complete Guide

Trivia 3

A Natural Talent for Swordsmanship.

In BC the 14 year old Cloud, on an escort mission, steals a sword from the enemies’ elite Raven soldiers, and shows amazing swordsmanship for his first time to the amazement of the Turk working with him. It is probably because he has this natural talent for using large swords that he able to use Zack’s Buster Sword so well.

[BC] The Turk also expresses surprise at Cloud handling the sword so well that one wouldn’t expect it from just having watched others.

vs Jenova (Final Fantasy VII; Nibelheim)

***Jenova-SYNTHESIS*** (Page 204)

The forms of Jenova that have been fought up to this point (BIRTH, LIFE, DEATH) were parts of the body which escaped from the Shin-Ra building. In regard to Jenova-SYNTHESIS, this form that was arranged to be fought inside the Planet, it is the head of Jenova that Sephiroth had in hand five years ago and the other parts Shin-Ra had, their Reunion complete. As such, its appearance differs from the previous forms: the image of this form's upper body has become strong, it being the closest to perfection.

...

***Jenova*** (Pages 210-213) (005.1)

An intelligent lifeform from somewhere in space. Approximately 2000 years ago, it crashlanded at the North Pole ["Knowlespole" in the English localization of the game] (the vicinity of Icicle Lodge's ["Icicle Inn" in the English localization] present location), negatively affecting the Planet; it came to be feared as "the Calamity from the Skies" by the Ancients, who still existed in great numbers at that time. Vicious, extremely aggressive and cunning. Having no thoughts of creating anything following bringing destruction, it only follows its instincts to incite ruin, utilizing its mimic ability (-->P.211) to infect other living organisms with its virus. In addition, due to its abnormal resilence, even if dismembered, its cells will call out to one another, seeking to reunite into their original form (-->Reunion/P.211). The scar Jenova's landing left on the Planet remains even to the present day, being now known as "the Northern Crater."

(Accompanying screenshot caption)

The parts that are seperated from the main body are still able to function as extensions. That is what those monsters called "Jenova" are that Cloud and company fight during the journey.

*Professor Gast and the Jenova Project*

Approximately 2000 years ago, Jenova collided with the Planet, and although the Ancients were nearly reduced to extinction, some Ancient survivors managed to seal Jenova underground in a deep sleep. However, Jenova would awaken because of Gast's guidance of Shin-Ra's Science Department.

...

***The WEAPONs*** (Page 215) (005.4)

The WEAPONs, created by the Planet itself, exist for the sake of acting as a self-defense mechanism [for the Planet]. Once, when the Planet had been injured after Jenova collided with it, Jenova became an impediment [to the Planet healing], and the Planet manufactured the WEAPONs to remove the creature by force. However, because the survivors of the Cetra succeeded in sealing Jenova away, the Planet mixed the WEAPONs with the natural mako within the Northern Crater and put them to sleep for a long time; until they -- perceiving the crisis to the Planet -- awakened simultaneously with Sephiroth calling Meteor. Regarding everything as a threat to the Planet, humans and civilizations became targets of the WEAPONs' destruction, though they faced opposition in Cloud and his friends.

(Accompanying screenshot caption)

Within the Northern Crater, where the Lifestream swells, the WEAPONs were put to sleep. Their faces are visible within the enormous mako which formed within the crater.

Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega

[ Approximately 2000 years before FFVII ]

·An extraterrestrial life form that will later be named Jenova crash lands on the planet while traveling through space on a meteorite. The indigenous Cetra race gather at the impact site in an effort to heal the massive wound to the planet, but are soon confronted by Jenova. The creature nearly wipes out the entire Cetra race before it is defeated and sealed in a geological stratum. Enormous creatures later called Weapons were created by the planet to combat Jenova, but with the creature defeated by the few surviving Cetra, the Weapons are placed in stasis within the crater formed by Jenova’s meteor. The impact crater will eventually become known as the Great Northern Crater.

...

Jenova

「 FFVII – AC – CC – DC – LO 」

A life form from another planet, which arrived on the planet on a meteorite approx. 2000 years ago. While it is not yet completely clear what it truly is, it is extremely intelligent and has the ability to mimic any other living being. It has an instinctive drive to destroy planets, and is a highly dangerous entity, so as the ‘Calamity from the Sky’ it was sealed by the Ancients. It was excavated by the ShinRa Company and used as a valuable basis of living body experiments, but together with Sephiroth who was created by those experiments it once again came back into action to destroy the planet. Even though most of its physical body was lost during the Jenova War its malevolent will remains, lurking in the Lifestream.

...

Reunion

「 FFVII – AC 」

One of the properties Jenova possesses is that separated pieces of flesh, called cells, will regenerate back to their original form – working toward the phenomenon of reunification. This is shown by instance(s) when both Jenova, who is practically close to immortal, and the son whom should be called Sephiroth, are resurrected sooner or later even after being destroyed.

FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania:
"What I want, Cloud... is to sail the darkness of the universe with this planet as my vessel... just as my mother did long ago..."

Here and here, the Cetra were informed by the Planet of the wound/crater left in the Northpole by Jenova's arrival and that Jenova fell from the sky creating it. 1000s of Cetra gathered to heal the wound to the Planet, but it still only healed itself after many years due to the severity of the wound. The snow in the north never melts and the land around the wound withered due to the Lifestream being expended in order to heal the Planet. Thereafter Jenova went about her Cetra extinction spree, taking the forms of dead loved ones to deceive them and infect those it came into contact with the virus that drove them mad and transformed them into monsters.

Here, in response to Jenova, the Planet created the 8 WEAPONs in order to see Jenova destroyed. Before they could be deployed, Jenova was sealed away by the remaining living Cetra and the Planet has kept the WEAPONs on standby as it watches the sealed Jenova just in case Jenova rouses once more. The Planet cannot fully heal so long as Jenova exists.

Here, Sephiroth overpowers Genesis Rhapsodos’ Firaga assault with Blade Beam. Genesis Rhapsodos endures the first Blade Beam. Genesis Rhapsodos' strikes are able to match Sephiroth’s subsequent Blade Beams. Sephiroth’s Blade Beams slice through the Mako Cannon.

Here, Sephiroth slices up large swathes of the Mako Cannon as he reengages with Genesis Rhapsodos.

Here, Genesis Rhapsodos further empowers his sword with magical energy, Genesis Rhapsodos and Sephiroth clash and crater a large section of steel on the Mako Cannon as their blade lock ends relatively evenly (slight advantage Sephiroth).

vs Elfe (Before Crisis; Pre-Nibelheim)

Here, here, and here, Sephiroth and Elfe clash blades with one another and cause a notable crater to form beneath their feet. Sephiroth senses the Zirconiade Materia in Elfe and notes she possesses an "exceptional strength" within her and warns not to take her lightly.

vs Helicopter (Before Crisis; Pre-Nibelheim)

Here and here, Sephiroth's slash destroys a Helicopter in a single attack.

vs Behemoth (Before Crisis; Pre-Nibelheim)

Here, Sephiroth has killed a Behemoth. The Behemoth's corpse is lodged inside a notable crater shaped roughly in its own outline.

vs Ifrit (Crisis Core; Pre-Nibelheim)

"A powerful djinn with control over scorching flames hot enough to turn the whole world to ashes."
"A flame-wielding summon recreated in virtual reality. This entity is said to have given humans the gift of fire, and is widely known as the incarnation of creaion and destruction."
"This great horned beast is capable of untold devastation and can reduce anything in its path to a pile of smouldering ash."

Of similar note? For a summon on Ifrit's general level like Shiva?

"An ice-element summon recreated in virtual reality. It is the manifestation of a queen who once healed the planet's wounds with ice, as evidenced by the existence of permafrost in the polar lands."
"An ice-elemental entity and ruler over the world of ice. It is said that she once saved the planet from certain destruction by staunching a great wound with a glacier."

Here, Sephiroth intercepts and slices through Ifrit's thrown fireball after breaking his way into Ifrit's dimension.

Here, Sephiroth defeats the crippled Ifrit with a single stroke.

vs G Assailant (Crisis Core; Pre-Nibelheim)

Copy Technology

Technology which, by transplanting the cells of a G-Type SOLDIER into a physically strong subject, copies the donor’s abilities, appearance, and characteristics onto the subject. However it does not always yield perfect results, and differences in appearance and ability may arise based on the subject’s latent potential. For example, the reason the Genesis and Angeal Copies in the game seem weaker than their originals is due to the subject’s latent potential being inferior to the originals, and are unable to fully utilise the abilities they received.

The influence of the copying process also extends to the subject’s mind, and if the subject’s will is weak their will is completely taken over by that of the cell donor and leads to the breakdown of their sense of self, like the SOLDIER operatives who become Genesis Copies. Conversely, if they are strong willed, they can maintain their identity while still being influenced by the will of the cell donor, such as Lazard as an Angeal Copy.

...

Genesis Copy

Subjects of the copy technique where Genesis’ cells were used. Though they are all humans their individual differences become more prominent during the process, as seen with the G-Assault and the G-Warrior, showing how an individual’s latent abilities can become integrated into the changes in form and strength that takes place during the copy process. The rate of their degradation also varies from individual to individual, along with influences from the state of Genesis’ cells, and thus his own degradation quickens the degradation of all Genesis Copies.

...

SOLDIER Degradation

A symptom of a particular flaw inherit within the G-Series SOLDIERs and their copies. It is due to an imperfect integration of Jenova cells into their bodies, and the symptoms worsen as their genetic information is spread to other beings. The first signs of degradation are changes in skin quality and hair color, and as the body’s natural immune system is damaged the subject’s skin and muscle tissue begin to degrade. Furthermore, the subject looses their ability to restrain themselves from giving in to brutal outbursts, which can temporarily raise their skills in combat, but they run the risk of eventually devolving into monsters.

...

Hollander’s Degradation

During the scenes in Gongaga Hollander’s degradation is revealed, because he used the same cells [from Gillian] he had originally transplanted into Genesis, and thus converted himself into a G-Series SOLDIER. The reason why his degradation is progressing at a remarkable rate and why his one wing is so small is because he does not have the same physical strength as Genesis.

Crisis Core Complete Guide

G-Type SOLDIER

Those created by Project G, and used to refers to Angeal and Genesis (in a broader sense, it also includes Hollander, who had applied the same treatment to himself during the game). The Copy ability they possess is the influence of Jenova’s own abilities to convert its target into a monster by implanting it with a virus it generates within its own body, and to mimic the form of people the target knows through reading their memories and emotions. However, as the Jenova cells are not fixed in their bodies, a G-Type SOLDIER will succumb to degradation symptoms as time passes.

Crisis Core Complete Guide

Genesis Army

An army formed by Genesis, Hollander, and Lazard, and comprised of Genesis and Angeal Copies. It was based out of Banora and Modeoheim. The people who were turned into Genesis Copies were those who Genesis took with him during the Mass SOLDIER Desertion.

Durability

Here, Lucrecia explains how her Jenova Cells wouldn't allow her to die despite wanting to die. Lucrecia, knowing Sephiroth has Jenova Cells much like she does, speculates he'd similarly be unable to die easily.

vs Omnislash V6 (Advent Children Complete)

"His last line doesn't make him sound entirely defeated. It's almost like he's not done yet, and he continues to linger out there, somewhere in space, waiting for the next chance. I discussed this with the voice director Shimizu, and asked him how defeared he wanted Sephiroth's final lines to sound."

Here, Cloud Strife's Omnislash V6 wounds Sephiroth to the extent he's no longer capable of sustaining his possession of Kadaj. He's otherwise left largely intact, if not fatally wounded, by the assault.

vs Cloud Strife (Advent Children Complete)

Here, Cloud Strife shoves Sephiroth through numerous concrete floors to no particular effect.

vs Finishing Touch (Advent Children Complete; Kadaj)

Here, Kadaj leaps into the air to attack Cloud Strife. Cloud Strife counters Kadaj by hitting him with his Limit Break "Finishing Touch". Kadaj endures the attack.

For comparison's sake? Let's look at Cloud Strife's battle with Bahamut SIN.

Mechanics, creature designer, Takayuki Takeya wondered if Bahamut Shin could be beaten when he looked at it.

The fight with Bahamut Shin was done with the Weapon battles from the game in mind so that viewers could feel the whole party was fighting together.

Final Fantasy VII AC Limited Edition Staff Commentary Summarization

Here, Cloud Strife's Limit Break "Braver" smashes the armor covering Bahamut SIN's skull and physically overpowered its upwards ascent via flight.

"Bahamut, having stored maximum energy, unleashes Mega Flare (later retconned to Peta Flare in FFRK) with uprecedented force. Cloud cuts through the blast and flies towards Bahamut. Cloud fuses his two swords and deals the finishing blow to Bahamut" - FFVII AC Limited Edition Collector's Set Bonus Script

Here and here, Cloud Strife's Climhazzard/Ascension cleaves through both Bahamut SIN's "Peta Flare" and Bahamut SIN itself, defeating it outright.

vs Geostigma Afflicted Cloud Strife (Advent Children Complete; Loz and Yazoo)

Here, Loz endures the force of having his motorcycle thrown and crash by Cloud Strife's motorcycle's storage mechanism for his Fusion Sword opening violently.

Here, Loz endures Cloud Strife kicking him and having his motorcycle blow up in his face.

Here, Loz and Yazoo clash with Geostigma Afflicted Cloud Strife and end up enduring the force of thrown by Cloud Strife's whirling slash attack that destroyed Loz's Dual Hound.

Here, Loz and Yazoo endure the explosion caused by the bomb Rude had personally produced. The explosion is violent enough to jossle Cloud Strife's highspeed motorcycle and cause him to briefly lose control from numerous kilometers away.

vs Reno and Rude (Advent Children Complete; Loz and Yazoo)

Here, Rude and Loz get into a brief grapple. Rude gets in a headbutt and tries to toss Loz only to get thrown by Loz in return.

Here, Loz and Yazoo each endure Reno and Rude's punches that send them both flying.

vs Tifa Lockhart (Advent Children Complete; Loz)

Here, Tifa Lockhart and Loz briefly clash before Tifa Lockhart starts to hammer Loz with a flurry of strikes. Loz is otherwise fine.

Here, Tifa Lockhart kicks Loz in the face, Loz responds with a punch augmented by his Dual Hound.

Here, Tifa Lockhart and Loz begin their exchange once more. Loz dodges Tifa Lockhart's initial leg sweep on for her to begin laying into Loz again with a combination kicks that send Loz moving backwards.

Here, Tifa Lockhart dodges Loz's punch augmented by Dual Hound that breaks the wall and lays into him with a punch and slams him into the ground by pouncing on his chest with both legs.

Here and here, Tifa Lockhart propels herself at Loz, drags his face across the floor, tosses him into the air, and slams him back down in the pews with a one armed throw. Loz is otherwise alright despite her attacks.

vs Omnislash (Final Fantasy VII; Meteor Crisis)

Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Ultimania p039

Omnislash

When the limit is reached, his sword is imbued with fighting spirit from the heart for just a moment. In the blink of an eye, 14 hits of damage are dealt one after another…. Cloud then dramatically leaps into the air and brings his sword down for the final slash.

Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega: Cloud Strife Profile p036-041

Omnislash

Appears in name alone in a question when joining the Premium Fan Club. It is the strongest limit break belonging to Cloud in FFVII; a series of 15 consecutive highly charged sword strikes. In the final stages of the Jenova War, Cloud used this attack to finish off Sephiroth. In AC he also used the same attack to finish off Sephiroth, but the one used there is called “Omnislash Ver.5”, and is an evolved form of the aforementioned attack.

Here and here, Sephiroth is able to endure Omnislash long enough for Cloud Strife to complete the entire string of attacks. While Sephiroth's body is left largely intact, he no longer possesses the strength to retain his form and diffuses into the Lifestream.

vs Super Nova (Final Fantasy VII; Safer Sephiroth)

Here, Safer Sephiroth tanks the expansion of the Sun and the ensuing explosion caused by his own Ultimate Technique.

vs Knights of the Round (Final Fantasy VII; Safer Sephiroth/Bizzaro Sephiroth)

"There are generations of knowledge and wisdom inside the Materia. We're going to borrow their powers and save the Planet from Sephiroth. There's no way we can lose the Huge Materia."

Doesn't hurt to remember that the power Cloud plans to borrow includes the creation of the Master Summon Materia, of which Knights of the Round is included, amongst all the other weaker summons.

Additionally?

Only 5 AI Scripts in the game acknowledge the usage of Knights of the Round having occurred at some point in the same battle or one preceeding it.

Those are Emerald WEAPON (counterattacks with Air Tam Storm), Ruby WEAPON (counterattacks with Ultima), Jenova SYNTHESIS, Bizzaro Sephiroth (use against Jenova SYNTHESIS increases its HP; if used on Jenova, it stands to reason it'd be used here too hence the increase in HP), and Safer Sephiroth (use against Jenova SYNTHESIS increases its HP; if used on Jenova, it stands to reason it'd be used here too hence the increase in HP).

Ergo, its fair game to suggest they were employed in all 5 battles in relation to character durability whereas other characters obviously possess no such reference or canonical reason for it possibly appearing in the fight.

Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega p495
Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega p495

Alright.

I see where that comes from, it depends how you want to interpret 天地崩壊 (This is Typhoon's designation/title it means "Collapsing World" or something to that effect). The main problem being 天地 / tenchi here.

For instance, the 5th pic:

- 放たれた閃光とともに、一瞬のうちに天地が逆転し...

- hanatareta senkou to tomo ni, isshun no uchi no Tenchi ga gyatuktenshi...

- With a flash of light, the World is reversed in an instant...

So, tenchi can mean World indeed, as well as mean Heaven & Earth, Realm... It's a pretty vague term all things considered.

I'm afraid to say this because I'm sure Megatron will jump on it, but it can also mean Universe.

In fact, my dictionary says:

Heaven and Earth, Universe.

vs Northern Crater Impact Event (Final Fantasy VII; Jenova SYNTHESIS)

Here and here, a full view of the crater left behind by Jenova's impact on the Planet and discussed how the impact from her arrival pushed the up the land to form "Gaea's Cliffs".

Cloud’s Skill with Greatswords

As a regular member of the Shinra Army, Cloud’s standard armament in this game is an automatic rifle, but as demonstrated in Scene 08-19 where he impaled Sephiroth with the Buster Sword he is adept at wielding greatswords. He appears to have had some grounding in using swords, and there is also a scene in “BC” where he fights back against an elite AVALANCHE unit with a large sword.

"After plunging himself into the Lifestream... Sephiroth's body was diffused into the flow, but it drifted to the Northern Cave and reunited there due to his strong will"

October

The remains of Sephiroth’s body drift to the Northern Crater. There, he absorbs knowledge from the Lifestream, and with the power of the head of Jenova and his own will, Sephiroth begins to create a new body.

FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania:

Here, Sephiroth has gained the knowledge and wisdom of the Ancients having traveled the Lifestream after Nibelheim. He's additionally gained the knowledge and wisdom of those that came after the extinction of the Ancients.

Here, Sephiroth is able to entirely resist the "voices of the planet" that are "howling in pain". Their words don't reach him, all their moments and memories are like rolling off his back.

The woman had sensed a different presence within the Lifestream cycling around the planet. It was the vehemence of a strong will, one that would never join with the planet. She knew this consciousness. It was the man who had taken her life. A merciless spirit hidden behind a beauteous wall. That spirit was now operating from within the Lifestream.

Lifestream White 1

***Lifestream*** (Pages 216-217) (005.5)

Everything that lives on the Planet returns to the Planet, and new life is born from their life force, which is also the life of the Planet and is called "Spirit Energy." The flowing collective of this spiritual energy is called "the Lifestream." When those who live on the Planet die, their life force returns to the Planet, becomes part of the Lifestream and is eventually allocated into a new life that will grow. This cycle of energy normally allows the Planet to function richly.

...

*Mako poisoning*

The Lifestream is the place to which all life returns, and, as a result, it is overflowing with knowledge. Consequently, when one falls in the Lifestream, the surge of information entering their head exceeds their brain's tolerance level and the danger of their mind shattering becomes high. The state in which one's mind has collapsed like this is called "mako poisoning," and doesn't happen only by falling into the Lifestream, but also through being exposed to mako. Cloud has suffered from this condition on 2 occasions.

Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega
"The Lifestream is a mass of spiritual energy and one person alone couldn't stand against such an incredible spiritual current..."

So my spirit will become one with the Lifestream coursing through this Planet. I wonder if father will be there too. Does consciousness have a shape? …No, such a powerful flow of energy would shatter the consciousness of any single human being easily.
