I and 5 friends just saw it earlier today. I'm THE comic person of the group, the rest just kinda know who he is. We all liked it quite nicley. The consensus seems to be about 4 out of 5. I think I'll get it on BR when it comes out. Sinestro was great. I thought Blake was surprisingly good as Carol (I like Gossip Girl, but thought she'd be weird here, but I liked her.). And Ryan Reynolds was just fun (and sexy). I mean, Hal is a great Green Lantern, but I usually think he's kinda boring personality wise, but I think Reynolds made him seem fun and interesting, much like the most recent GL series of the last few years. Kilowog could've been a bit better. Hector was ...interesting. Parallax was fine. I actually really liked the look of the Guardians, and their attitude was spot on. All in all, some of it could've been better, but if you don't go into it looking for the greatest cinema experience ever, you will be pleasantly suprised, I think!
@Adnan - that makes sense, I suppose, if they're got more pages, having them be more expensive. And I knew Booster was in JLI, but he's usually better in a solo book. Although I hadn't heard Zatanna was going to be in JLD...?
@fenixREVOLUTION - Well, I know they're going to be 2.99 AFTER the first issue, so I'm not worried about that. It was just the First Issue of every series which is starting at 3.99 that has me worried.
And alotogether, I'm not worried about the revamp, I'm excited about it. I was just questioning their decision about having all the first issues being 3.99, and how I think that will prevent them from luring in many new readers, whereas if they lowered the price (just for that first issue) it could possibly get more readers into the books.
I suppose I'm thinking of this as some sort of marketing ploy that could potentially get them a bunch more notice and readers. Assuming that it wouldn't financially ruin them... which, even though I know comics have been doing poorly, I don't think doing this the one time would bankrupt them. Anyway, hopefully I've made my thoughts a touch more clear on this...!
Despite some of my favortie titles, like Booster Gold, JSA, and Zatanna apparently not coming through with the revamp, I'm still very hopeful that the revamp will be a good and fun thing!
But something I'm wondering. If DC wants to attract more new readers with this, rather than having the number ones be special priced at 3.99, 4.99 with digital, maybe they should go the other way. I've been reading DC comics for around 30 some years, and doubt I'll stop. But I have a home and a family and my finances are not impressive. I've been very happy with DC's drawing the line at 2.99. It's helped me afford more comics.
But with the new number ones being 3.99, 4.99 if I want the digitalas well, I'll only be able to get a few. Maybe 3 - 4 each week. Now, if DC actiually did something different, and made the new number ones 1.00, I would buy them all. (Make the with digitals 2.00) Perhaps have the number twos could be 2.00, then the number threes be 2.99.
I think this was DC could get a lot of new people (if this were advertised) to try the new books. I myself would probably get ALL the number ones, just to try them. Who knows, maybe I'll love Sgt. Rock, but at this point, I have no intention of spending 3.99 on it as it generally doesn't appeal and I can't justify 'wasting' that much money...!
So, I don't know, I think this will only get DC a small term sales spike...but I think if they went the cheaper cost route, it might bring more fans into the reading the books regularly... What's everyne else's opinion on this idea? I'd love to hear! 8)
