I don't think he needs to become an anti-hero. and I would say to Superman fans that the situation is not hopeless, you never know when things could do a 180, this isn't the first time in history that Superman was unpopular. Superman comics were not popular in the 1980s either, he was barely in the top 40.

then in the 1990s Superman became popular and relevant again seemingly overnight. back then they managed to make Supes feel relevant again without completely changing the character, he grew long hair, his costume became a slightly darker shade of blue, that's about it. but the major change was in the kinds of stories he had and the kinds of characters he encountered. so to me the key (as proven in the 90s) is to update his comics but not his character.

another trick they used in the 90s was to imply there was going to be an unprecedented permanent change in the Superman comics, only to have things return to the status quo after less than a year. which they did twice with the Death of Superman and Superman Red/Blue.

so even though it seems like Superman will never make a comeback, you never know, with the right creative direction it could happen, we've seen it before at a time when people were saying Supes is done and then boom! he's the #1 selling comic in the world.

The obsession with movie trilogies comes from the early 00s. there was a lot of nostalgia for Star Wars and hype for the long awaited prequel trilogy, so Hollywood kind of caught trilogy fever, there was also some competition amongst filmmakers to see who was going to make the "Star Wars" for the millennial generation. a trilogy that would have the same kind of generational and cultural impact.

George Lucas was making his prequel trilogy, the Wachowskis making their Matrix trilogy, Peter Jackson making the LoTR trilogy.

These trilogies were all very profitable, so obviously if something is a success and makes money Hollywood will just continue doing that, so movie trilogies just became the conventional format. to the point that many who grew up in that era feel that every movie series ought to be a trilogy. if a movie series is not a trilogy many people view it as being not correct, or imperfect.

@knockoutpunch: "No one said anything about clothes" lol oh boy. "costume" means all of the clothing the actors wear in a production.

It's an ambitious gothic epic, so of course it's going to have very over the top acting, it's not going for realism. it's going for theatrical, dramatic, over the top.

many great movies, have the kinds of mistakes like the one you mention, movies much much greater than Bram Stoker's Dracula. Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, North by Northwest, Alien, T2, all have mistakes. it's something that is almost expected when your making a movie with all these moving parts, a mistake will make it into the movie without the filmmaker catching it.

If you want to believe Will Smith is a much better actor than Keanu Reeves, then go ahead, what do I care. but I'm under no obligation to join you in that belief, and I won't be doing so. they're both average.

Excellent acting 😐

Winona ryder's? Almost all the accents are horrendous and all over the place including hopkins "Romanian" accent, and the acting is so over the top it is hard to take seriously.

Excellent costumes as in oldmans comedic forehead prosthetic and ridiculous wig? I'm assuming that movie left an impression on you as a kid so you continue to hold it in high regard and have a hard to seeing it as it really is.

The film is super dated, at best its quaint and endearing at worst it's a sloppy mess.

No I just have something you clearly lack, good taste. the film won an Oscar for it's costume design. you realize with a movie like this not a single character wears normal clothing, they all wear clothing that is period correct. also Gary Oldman's red armor was fantastic, and the look he has when he first meets Jonathan Harker is iconic.

saying any movie is dated is stupid, because the 20th century was a superior age for film, so if it's dated then that's a good thing.

Even if neither is particularly good will is leagues above keanu. He actually has a range. Keanu not so much.

Being that we were talking Dracula earlier, reeves was STILL his airheaded surfer 🏄‍♂️ dude, with a poor British accent veneer. He is fine in the roles he finds himself in but looking solely at acting he can't compete. If you think so list some performances 🎭 NOT iconic films

If there's any difference in their skill levels as actors it's not noticeable. both guys sell movies on their personalities, popularity, likeability and both have a good sense for what their target audience wants to see.

Shark Attack by far.

Hollywood has actually gotten a lot of mileage out of the Zombie Apocalypse genre, and Zombie movies are more relevant because they're usually allegories for larger societal problems. there's truth in Zombie movies that speaks to people, I don't think there's anything true or interesting about Shark movies.

None.

Burton's Batman movies come the closest to being masterpieces, but even those films I wouldn't quite say are masterpieces. I would probably nominate Beetlejuice or Edward Scissorhands out of his filmography.

the problem is that most directors who make CBMs are not masters of film so they can't very well have a masterpiece.

Yeah, Keanu's been in some classics. Point Break, The Matrix, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Speed, Devil's Advocate.

Will's filmography isn't as strong.

This is about acting not filmography

I don't consider either to be particularly good actors, so since both are average you have to look at other factors such as filmography, personality etc. I prefer Keanu's movies, his personality and what he brings to the movies he's in overall.
