History
John Smith was a name given to a slave in Georgia, shortly before the Civil War began. Born to a lone mother (father, lynched at an earlier date), he swiftly went to working on a cotton farm after he reached a proper age. For years, his work continued, until the actual Civil War began. The small farm that he had formerly called home was taken by Union soldiers, who offered the slaves a choice. Either stay at the farm, which no longer held any Confederate sway, or come with the soldiers to fight alongside them. John, now at about the age of sixteen, went along with the troops, the only person from his plantation to be so bold as to embark on the journey.
They marched, and John fought bravely, but something peculiar happened one night. In the midnight hour, while patrolling the border of his brethren's encampment, John was attacked. By a vampire. The creature of lore was a rarity ever since the 17th century or so, but there were still a few of them around. One, in the wilderness of Georgia. It bit John, and effects started to be shown immediately as the boy was transformed. Physicals, increased, and an insatiable thirst for blood was found. However, Smith still had morals. He still fought alongside his Union allies, until one night, when he found his thirst for blood too strong to resist. He drank from a Confederate soldier as they raided Atlanta, Georgia, and one of his companions saw.
Immediately, the whole army was alerted. They grabbed John, and burned him at the stake in the heart of Atlanta's city hall.
A day later, he was fine... But now, completely alone. His allies had left him, and most people didn't want to go through the city streets as the entire city had been set ablaze. For years and years, John patrolled the wild, never sticking to one location for too long. However, eventually, while sitting against the trunk of a tree in a loincloth drinking from a squirrel, he realized something. This was no way to live. John went back to the nearest city he could find, and found a 'Wanted' poster. Using his abilities to track down the culprit, he brought the boy in for a healthy sum of money, and actually got himself some legitimate clothes. He continued this bounty hunting, and as time went by managed to buy some pretty kick-ass ninja swords.
Powers/Abilities
Hemokinesis is one of John's first and foremost abilities as a vampire. While some of his kind are able to actually manipulate the blood found in other creatures through their hypnotic gazes, John simply manages to enhance his own physicals by an intake of blood- the more he drinks, the stronger he becomes, until he is eventually a flurry of tooth and claw. While no mathematical chart has been laid out for his intake of blood to his intake of strength, John has made a few claims on this-
"Man is best... The blood of man, I can fight an army. But beasts sate me. Livestock. I function with livestock, but man... 'tis like drinking from the Holy Grail."
Superhuman physicals is of course a result from this. Records have not been made, but John has been shown to punch through reinforced steel walls with the ease that one might have of punching through a piece of paper. Speed is his pride and joy, as within seconds he can be completely lost from the eyesight of a normal man, reducing himself to merely a blur and nothing more. The only thing that he lacks physically is durability, but Cobra Rei makes up for this with an incredible healing factor that allows him to recover from literally anything in a day's time, or less, depending on what the problem is. This seems slightly unfair in most fights, as the next day Rei will find his prey and strike again, but there is one true way to kill him.
A wooden stake through the heart. As a result of this method to his immediate death, John has placed a bulletproof vest under his thick leather jacket, making sure it covers his heart area.
Hypnosis is one of the less frequently used abilities of John's, and for a good reason- he isn't very talented with it. At best, he can use this skill to get through security guards by making eye contact and telling them what he wants (For example, if he gets pulled over, he can hypnotize the officer to letting him roam free). However, this is limited depending on what John wants to happen. He cannot force a man to, say, kill himself, but seeds of depression that weren't there earlier might take a toll on said man.
Dusk & Dawn
The two katanas that John carries, each sword serves a completely different purpose. Dusk, the main weapon of choice, is made of carbonadium, making it capable of negating healing factors- including the healing factors of his vampiric brethren, which is the main reason why John 'borrowed' such pricey material. This is the metal he uses for combat against any metahumans, unless they show signs of magical ability- in which case, he uses Dawn.
