  • Her motherly, nurturing side and hopefulness was relatable to me *tear bends* and is what caused me to gravitate toward her character. Katara is kindhearted and compassionate, even to "enemy" fire nation folk. To this day, her "No! I will never, *ever* turn my back on people who need me..." quote still inspires me. One of her biggest strengths is her ability to remain empathetic, kind and altruistic no matter what. But do not mistake this as weakness. Just because she is loving does not mean she is not strong. She will put everything she has in protecting her loved ones. She is like the yin and yang of waterbending. She represents the duality perfectly with her element.

She was the heart of the Gaang, the glue that kept them all together. I thoroughly enjoyed her character and seeing her grow as a person and bender throughout the series.

  • Seeing Zuko go through such an enormous character journey, growing in wisdom and stature, and watching his story parallel with Aang was really beautifully written. The complicated relationships he had with his family, his bond with Iroh, and his path of redemption all turned him into a fantastic young man and gave us a fulfilling character. Most of us started off hating him but ended up falling in love with him. Also... Honor!

  • Cunning, strategist, perfectionist, prodigy, royalty. Princess Azula seemed to have it all going for her, but she was psychologically broken and abused. She has just as much a twisted and terrible childhood as her brother. And actually, if you look deep into her character, she is possibly one of the best written ones from the shows. 'The Psychology of Azula' is a great analysis video of her (found on yt). I got chills every time her theme played, Azula was so entertaining to watch. She was the villain you loved to hate or the one you secretly rooted for. I find myself on the latter.

  • The uncle we all wished we had. Imagine sitting down with him drinking a nice cup of tea and hearing his stories and advice. Sounds like a perfect date to me. "Hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength." He was so full of wisdom and virtue.

  • The leader of the Kyoshi Warriors. I think Suki fit right in with the Gaang. She is a valiant warrior with a courageous heart. I loved how even after being imprisoned she didn't let that keep her down, she came back stronger and wiser. Kyoshi would be proud.

  • I never really appreciated Aang the first few times I watched the series. But having watched it again as I'm older, I have learned to love and admire his optimism, endurance and wisdom beyond his years.

  • Sokka was truly funny. He genuinely made me laugh out loud with his witty and sarcastic humor. But his character was more than just comedic relief. Sokka has a heart as strong as a lion turtle and twice as big. He was the brains and the one who came up with creative ideas and solutions. His skills lay not in brute force but in planning and ingenuity.

  • Ty Lee was cheerful and enjoyable. I think it's great how she went on to join the Kyoshi Warriors after she left Ozais' Angles. She wanted to make a name for herself and not be the same as her sisters and I believe she's done that. She is the perfect example of looks can be deceiving, as her deadly chi blocking could bring down even the most powerful benders.

  • With an opposite personality to Ty Lee, her best friend and partner in crime, is Mai. She is another character I found relatable. She is calm and on the quite side, timid to show her feelings. She is loyal to her loved ones. Mai is skilled with knives and stilettoes with brilliant accuracy. It's never a good idea to get on the sharp end of her blade.

  • The Matriarch of the Metal Clan. She created the metal bending city, Zaofu. It was innovative and magnanimous. Su is a leader, skilled metal bender and elegant dancer. She is carefree, creative and passionate. She looks for the potential in everyone. She fought for what she believed in and loved her family dearly. She's not like a regular mom, she's a cool mom.

  • She may not have appeared much, but she was really cool. I would have loved to dive into her backstory more. Ming Hua was unlike any other water bender. Using bending to give herself water arms, making her disability an asset, similar to Toph. With her speed and agility, swinging around all the time, she took waterbending to a unique place we have never seen it in. The Red Lotus was awesome.

  • "Only justice can bring peace." Kyoshi has always fascinated me from her brief appearances in the series. After reading her book she is truly a captivating character. She had a difficult childhood and a unique, complex journey as an Avatar. She is equally humble as she is strong. I can't wait to learn more about her in the upcoming stories.

  • The Misunderstood Avatar. Everyone thought he was lazy and irresponsible, when in reality he was a courageous person who put others before himself! He dedicated his life to fighting off dark spirits created by Yangchen's mistakes. His kept his actions secret from the world to protect her legacy and from his friends to keep them away from such accursed activity. The world only knew him as a party goer womanizer. Kuruk put on a brave face but suffered internally for many years. He was gifted and charming, but unfortunately, his life was short and tragic. His passion to save his love Ummi was inspiring and never ceased. He fought for their freedom till the end.

  • Friend of the Spirits! Jinora has a reserved and calm nature. She is intelligent and ahead of her time. She is a gifted airbender, who is the first we've seen use Spiritual Projection. She is always there to help out.

  • She started strong and determined, so full of energy and fire. Over the seasons she faced much strife and trauma. She had to work through it all and build herself back up again and with this she learned compassion and patience. Korra has amazing courage and heart. She is always ready at the helm to deliver justice!

  • Practical and determined, Mako is one cool dude. Unfortunately, his character gets a bit lost in relationship drama, but outside of that he is a great brother and detective. I enjoyed his dynamic with Prince Wu.

  • I see Tenzin as the backbone of the show. He carried a great burden and was always there for Korra when she needed him.

  • Republic City could not be in better hands than with Lin as Chief of Police. Although she can be tough and blunt on the outside (which I love), on the inside she is a softy with a big heart.
