List items

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra- This is probably the best story I’ve ever heard. Two stories but it’s a complete and shared universe. These characters are so great so authentic, you wish they real, you want so desperately for them to be real. The emotions and events. It also sports some of the most beautiful animation I’ve ever seen. For example, Aang’s energybending scene. Or the final battle scene of Korra. And without a doubt, it has some of the fastest paced, most fluid, and exciting action, I’ve ever seen. Animated or not. This is quite possibly my favorite intellectual property ever. Long Live Avatar!

  • Daria- Daria and Jane’s relationship is great for one. Daria’s one liners are hilarious. But in the last two seasons, It’s great to see a progression in character between the main character. To see how much Daria, Jane, and Quinn came at the end of the series is just heartwarming. The representation of high school is exaggerated, but it creates a lot of good messages about life and living as a teen.

  • Cowboy Bebop- Spike’s story is as action packed as it is tragic. The anime manages to put out as much emotion as if the characters were real, right in front of them. The ending is one of the most fitting of any story I’ve ever seen. Though It would be great to see the ultimate fate of the Bebop crew, it was still great.

  • One Piece- Arguably the most diverse and unique of the shows I’ve watched. One Piece has it all. Pirates, marines, superpowers, mystical prophecies, princesses, kings, flowers, genocide, slavery, blackmail, murder, insanity. Yeah so it’s a really saccharine show, but it manages to touch on some darker themes, without being. The fact that nobody really dies, sometimes gets on my nerves, but I still love it.

  • Rocko’s Modern Life- I’ve looked back on many of the shows from my past and without the nostalgia and seen that they weren’t that good, but Rocko’s Modern Life is even more hilarious since I was a kid. And hasn’t lost a step. It’s actually gotten better with age.

  • Kill La Kill- The main characters are great, the animation is great. The fight scenes are the some of the best I’ve ever seen. The story is pretty unique too. Don’t want to spoil, but I’ve never thought clothes could be so integral to a character’s plot. It is extremely sexualized, but I think it’s appropriate to the story, it even has a plot point.

  • Futurama- Probably my favorite of the cartoons that revolve around ‘Adult Humor.’ I always preferred it over The Simpsons. I’ve also loved the jokes, the callbacks, the smart humor. The classic and yet unique depiction of the future. Just bizarre things a murdering Santa robot. Brilliant.

  • Regular Show- Some of the most unconventional storytelling of all time. Is it deep or shallow? That’s debatable. The point is it’s a highly enjoyable show with some great action, some great humor, and actual human emotion sometimes.

  • Airmaster- I just love the lead character. Maki is so graceful, so strong, so funny, so beautiful. It has some great fight scenes, chases, and humor. The side characters can get a little grating, but the focus is on Maki and she is wonderful.
