The Breakfast Club (Homages #146)

Homages to The Breakfast Club in chronological order. But first, the original...

I was often late on a lot of pop culture things- still am, to be honest. So when I was over at my friend's house back in the 1980's, and told him I had never seen The Breakfast Club, we watched it immediately.

I remember that I had a good time watching it with my friend, because we laughed and cut up all the way through it. Y'know- friend stuff. I didn't really remember much about the movie though.

So, enter Netflix- I was a little late to that, but not too bad. A couple of years into my enjoyment of that service, I discovered that The Breakfast Club was available. Remembering how much I enjoyed it as a teenager, I played it immediately, and... I didn't really care for it.

I know, I know- that's blasphemy for an Eighties kid to say, but it's true. They were in detention, and I felt like I was in detention with them- it took forever for this movie to end! It just dragged on and on and on and on and... like that. If I hadn't had such a crush on Molly Ringwald in the Eighties, I'd have quit and watched something else.

Still, despite never wanting to watch it again personally, I have to confess that it still holds a fond place in my heart for the nostalgia it brings up. My own experiences aside, people still love this movie! So much so, that there have been homages/parodies of it for other shows and movies. Whether they were for promotional purposes, or just someone's Photoshop fantasies, they're out there. And there's a stage production of this! Which actually kind of makes sense, since the majority of the movie is an extended one act play.
