Rocky and Bullwinkle - Cheerios (Comic Ads #31)

No Caption Provided
Comic Ads are more than just the mountain of Hostess Ads we know and love. Over the years, many a company has used one page comic ads to shill their products in the pages of comic books! So I thought I'd do a list series that showcases those ads, and shows you what issues I've found them in. To me, these are as much a part of comics history as any superhero, and I love 'em for the nostalgia they bring. I hope they do the same for you. Enjoy.

So 1965's Uncle Scrooge #59 was just a treasure trove of cool comic cereal ads. I thought the half-page A Laugh A Minute With The Cuckoo Bird! was fun, and that the two-thirds page How's Trix? was great, but this full page ad with Rocky and Bullwinkle is absolute gold. As ever, Rocky is the enthusiastic straight man to Bullwinkle's antics, and there are great extras like the squirrel that yells "Timber" and thinks Bullwinkle is a nut- so cute that you probably didn't even think about Rocky and a "real" squirrel being in the same story. And what Bullwinkle skit would be complete without a corny pun?

Of course, I probably enjoyed this a little more than average, because I can do passable voices for Rocky and Bullwinkle, so I was definitely hearing them in my head. The only thing that could have made this more complete is if Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale were somehow involved.
