Iron Man in "The Charge of the Rhinos!" (Hostess Ads #2)

No Caption Provided
On a site dedicated to making a wiki history of all things comics, comics ads should not be forgotten. Especially the ads for Hostess Fruit Pies, Twinkies, and other snacks. Starting in 1975, Marvel and DC heroes (and the Harvey characters!) spent seven years throwing Hostess snacks at a bizarre line of villains to stop their crimes. Although many of the villains were completely silly, they were created specifically for these ads, and in many cases, not even the names have been used again, since the ads stopped in mid-1982.

So I thought I'd show an ad here, and make a list of the comics I find it in, as I run across them. This time it's: Iron Man in "The Charge of the Rhinos!" As noted on the Hostess Superhero Advertisements page:

Attacking Fort Noxx, a group of criminals used hulking electronic rhinoceros machines to wade through both the military defenses and Iron Man. Luckily, Iron Man was able to distract the pilots with an offering of Hostess Twinkies - which shut down the Rhinos for good.

As a kid, I was probably a bit confused as to why they didn't use The Rhino. Sure, he's mainly a Spider-Man villain, but he was an already existing Marvel character, predating this ad by nearly fifteen years. Also, he'd surely toot his own horn (couldn't resist) and tell you that he's pretty formidable in his own right. Besides, what good are rhinobots if we never see them in the Marvel Universe again? <sigh> Maybe in one of the movies <suppresses a laugh>.
