On January 6, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt made a State of the Union address known as the Four Freedoms speech. He said people everywhere should enjoy four freedoms:
- Freedom of Speech
- Freedom of Worship
- Freedom From Want
- Freedom From Fear
Rockwell made paintings inspired by this speech that were used in the Saturday Evening Post. Freedom From Want was created in November, 1942, and published in the Post on March 6, 1943. It was only featured inside, and not as a cover. However, it has at least been depicted as a cover in a picture used for a jigsaw puzzle. This painting has seen many homages and parodies outside of comics, including two by the Saturday Evening Post itself featuring The Waltons and The Muppets. I'm sure there are more out there, but here's 52 that I found across the Internet:
