♆ The Storm Son - Origin/Background ♆ On the night of Casimiro's birth, a storm unlike any other rolled through the Portuguese islands of Madeira. Thunder cracked overhead like the hammer of Thor crashing into an anvil above the clouds. And lightning tore the sky asunder in brilliant flares that set the sea glow. To the seafaring Cardoso family, this was a cosmic decree that their son would brave the stormy seas like no man before him. And as he grew into the adaptive powers of his X-Gene, Casimiro became a man as fit for the ocean as he was the surface. He lanced into the deep, and answered the freezing cold and crushing pressures with a stubborn genetic willingness to adapt and persevere. Though as his aquatic mastery grew, so too did his fascination with the deep.
And though his extraordinary powers made him a marine biologist like no other, the Blue Leviathan withdrew from life on the surface, and found his haven in roaming the ocean man worked so tirelessly to destroy. And it was there that he found a city whose architecture seemed as human as it was alien - so close, yet so distant . Atlantis. There, he was an outsider, a landdweller no less. Yet, it pulled at his spirit all the same.
♆ The Ice Dragon - Psychological Profile/Personality ♆Few traits enjoy greater prominence in Casimiro than daring, nerve, courage, charm and chivalry. His is a confidence that knows no bounds. And the trust placed in his own intuition is tempered only by the charm with which he convinces others to not worry on his behalf. Fearless, calm and bold, the Blue Leviathan weaves his way through conflict as he does through social settings - seamlessly . His talent for social interaction borders on the supernatural, and is bolstered by a composure that keeps him on the path of certainty. And though kind and fair of heart, Casimiro holds a fierce spirit. He is personable, but rarely forgives. Though once flippant, carefree and even reckless, Casimiro's time in Atlantis as rendered him more serious and decisive. So while his cheek and adventurous spirit remain, they are now tempered by a maturity and earnest awareness of the fate awaiting the seas should man continue to neglect it.
This subtle but noticeable change combines well with his thirst for knowledge and schools of thought different than those of which he's familiar. It has rendered Casimiro more observant and less talkative. Though his instinct for banter has not eroded, it has merely cooled with his experiences. In addition to this, the Ice Dragon holds dear all social relationships he has/ Not only will he go to the ends of the world for those he cares for, he also feels a martial pride in protecting those close to him. Though few things are greater to him than protecting the seas. To him, doing so epitomizes his manhood and defines his worth as a man. The Blue Leviathan is, therefore, fiercely protective of the ocean, the womb from which all life on Earth came.
♆ The Aquatic Knight - Knowledge & Skills ♆◊ ◊ Natural Intelligence ◊ ◊ A quick and critical thinker, Casimiro is an intelligent man with a keen eye for analysis and pattern recognition. Like many intelligent men, he bears many of the hallmarks of intelligence. Casimiro, for example, articulates his thoughts via speech with seamless clarity, exhibits great information retention and recall, and typically exercises significant self-control and composure. He frequently conceives of the most effective solutions to many problems faced, and his role as a human in Atlantis attempting to undo man's crimes against the sea has granted him the ability to balance between persisting on long-terms goals and simultaneously adapting to the constantly changing conditions of a chaotic world. Balancing this contradictory elements is the result of his years facing the ruthless conflicts within the metahuman world. Additionally, Casimiro is well versed in history, archaeology, and marine biology.
His natural intelligence lends itself to his instinct for strategy and tactics. His mind is always considering the many patterns, possibilities and logical consequences of any likely or unlikely scenario, and he often observes the terrain, time, climate, and every possible condition that might impact a certain conflict. His social intelligence however, is equally great. Charming and an expert at reading both the facial expressions and body language, Casimiro can often infer an individual's needs and wants based on specific physical tells, enabling him to adjust his course of action while simultaneously analyzing his social environment.
◊ ◊ Armed Fighting System: Pollaxe Combat ◊ ◊ As skilled with a pollaxe as he is without one, the Blue Leviathan wields a pollaxe with a pointed top, a hammer face on one side, and an axe face on the other side. It's length and leverage enables him to use it like a spear or jab with the rear end of the shaft against an opponent who gets close, or he may use the shaft to block or push off weapons. Though his pollaxe is designed for two-handed use, the Ice Dragon is himself strong enough to wield it one-handed and use a shield on the other hand. However, he rarely does so as he recognizes the danger of one-handed wielding of weapons where the weight is concentrated on one end instead of being balanced throughout. Instead, Casimiro wields his pollaxe two-handed, using momentum to steer it to his targets; the skull, chest, and joints of an opponent .
Master of the Pollaxe As the weapon transforms a large amount of potential energy into enormous amounts of kinetic energy, when paired with Casimiro's superhuman attributes and superb skill, a single hit is devastating. Typically, he uses the hammer face of his pollaxe to shatter armor or any type of force field an opponent may use. And once the opponent's flesh is exposed, Casimiro uses the axe side of his pollaxe to swing at them at an angle. Against foes who use shields, the Blue Leviathan often uses the long handle of his weapon to reach over an opponent's shield, and the axe face of his pollaxe to hook the top of the shield and pull it down, or the opponent off balance. To maximize the efficiency of his pollaxe, Casimiro's footwork often has him seize a dominant angle from which he swings chopping strikes at his foe.
Casimiro however, will not use his pollaxe when facing an opponent wielding a sword given the inherent advantages swords hold over pollaxes and war hammers. Against a swordsman, he too uses a sword. Unarmed opponents will frequently find that Casimiro will target their joints and skull.
♆ The Devil of the Deep - Powers & Abilities ♆◊ ◊ X-Gene ◊ ◊ A mutant whose X-Gene is the one true source of his power, Casimiro is a stubbornly exceptional specimen in the simplest of terms. His body is home to an incredibly powerful adaptive genetic component, rendering his body, mind and soul very quick to adapt to all manner of stimuli. That which fails to kill him, will only strengthen him, lending to legends among underwater civilizations of a surface-dweller who grows stronger after every battle. His body has adapted well to the challenges of aquatic life. In response to the great cold and crushing pressure of the deep sea, Casimiro's body has developed tougher, denser, stronger and more efficient tissues which are better equipped for the harsh conditions of the ocean depths, as well as unique internal pressures that respond to the pressures of his surroundings. As a result, performance in all his body's physical systems soared, granting him a myriad of superhuman physical attributes including superhuman strength, speed, durability, toughness, stamina, and super metabolic adaptation.
Enhanced Eyesight Furthermore, the Blue Leviathan is well adapted to environments devoid of breathable air. Specifically, he has developed gills, enabling him to extract oxygen from seawater and pump it across a membrane. However, Casimiro can do so without succumbing to the toxicity of oxygen under pressures different than those found on the surface. How he accomplishes this is owed to biological mechanism adapted to removing compressed oxygen from the bloodstream. Additionally, Casimiro is also adapted to the changes in osmotic pressure which would otherwise cause his cells to shrivel as they try to equalize against seawater. Failure to maintain the pressure gradients necessary in keeping the flow of sodium or potassium ions results in the brain shutting down. The Blue Leviathan however, is well adapted to these stresses. Ocean life has also rendered Casimiro an incredibly powerful and fast swimmer. While his nerve conductive velocity is far superior to those possessed by ordinary humans, rendering him incredibly fast, his body has adapted to the demands of his underwater environment by enabling him to swim at enormous superhuman velocities, the limits of which are unknown.
Casimiro's ability to swim at incredible speeds is due to supercavitation, which enables him to form form a large bubble around himself as he swims, dramatically reducing the drag forces he experiences. In addition to this, the Blue Leviathan has also adapted to the low-light environments of the deep sea by developing a new form of sensory perception and enhancing an existing one. By manipulating the chemical receptors in the rods and cones of his retinas, Casimiro can alter the spectrum he perceives. Furthermore, the muscle tissues of his eyes can be supercharged with his body's energy reserves to generate gravitational fields, producing a gravity lens that allows him to focus far beyond the range of the ordinary human eye. When combined with his eyes' sensitivity to the electromagnetic spectrum, Casimiro can magnify any image countless times, no matter how small. His other superhuman sense is one possessed by some forms of marine life. The Blue Leviathan can sense the bio-electrical fields produced by the twitching muscle fibers in living organisms.
♆ The Baron of the Blue - Paraphernalia ♆◊ ◊ Drowned Armor ◊ ◊ The Drowned Armor is a thing of mystery. Forged from light but durable armored plating that more resembles seashells than metal, the Drowned Armor bears ancient aquatic runes that - according to legend - grants it's wearer the ability to deal blows with the power of thunder. Uncovered under the ruins of a forgotten underwater temple, the Drowned Armor emits a shock-wave channeled through Casimiro's blows and into his targets. By default, these shock-waves attune themselves to subtle stress points of the internal physical structure of whatever Casimiro strikes e.g. the skeletal structure of an opponent, or the internal structure of their armor and shield. As a result, the Blue Leviathan's strikes deal significant structural damage to his targets at worst, and shatter their internal structures at best, regardless of durability. A blocked punch for example, threatens to break the bones in the blocking arm.
Beyond this power, the Drowned Armor offers Casimiro an added measure of durability, siphoning portions of kinetic energy from his opponent's attacks to store as energy for the shock-waves it produces.
◊ ◊ Illumina ◊ ◊ A shapeshifting weapon capable of turning into a longsword, a pollaxe, and a bow, Illumina is powered by superheated energy. In the form of a sword, it's blade is a double-edged stream of superheated energy whose edges are so volatile they weaken the molecular bonds of anything they come into contact with, enabling the sword to cut through virtually anything. The pollaxe on the other hand, is different. It's axe/hammerhead enjoys too benefits. The axe-blade, like the sword, features a superheated energy edge, while the hammer is a glowing mass that siphons the binding physical energies that hold structures together, enabling it to smash through almost all materials. Finally, the bow form of Illumina shoots explosive energy-arrows of immense heat.
