Who ever decided that putting "foul language" and real, more urban crime and situations would make comics seem real? Now, first let me say that the idea of making comics seem real...is well, unrealisitc. I mean think about it, most comics deal with superheroes who are, in reality, grown people parading around in spandex with, often ridiculous powers. See,that already sounds kind of stupid. Well now picture the same comic with the same character wearing the same tight costume who possesses the same ridiculous powers fighting, not aliens or supervillains, but crooks, and drug dealers, and sex-offenders, THAT doesn't sound right to me. It's like saying,"Hey everyone loves this brightly-colored guy with weird powers and his far-out exploits, but it's hard to believe this kind of stuff."

 Well I say,"No shit sherlock, that's why the nerdy masses love'im, because reading about him helps them escape their sucky lives." Who wants to read comic after comic about how shitty and morally corrupt today's society has become? Not me.

Besides, it seems more stupid to picture Batman taking down a robber than it does to picture him punching Joker's light's out, and it seems a bit funner too. At least to me it does.

 Secondly, when comics try to sound "edgier" by adding alot of cursing it just sounds stupid to me, I mean is this a funnybook or the freakin' Sopranos? Not to mention that when it's done, it's usually OVERdone. We understand that the book is "gritty and real" but I see no need for the f-word to be in every other panel. I know people who curse less in 1 week than 24 pages of some comics do. Now, this does NOT go for all comics like that, there ARE a small handful of books that are able to maintain that perfect balance between gritty realism and that whimsical comic-like storytelling. However, I'd still take a good ish of the Flash over a take-no-prisoners issue of Scalped,(not to say that that book isn't fantastical), any day, but that's just me.
