Editing Images - Free software

Programs such as Photoshop are very cool, but they are very expensive as well.  
 

If you're not a professional in the field you'll never think in buying it.  Smaller versions of these software do exist, and they are alright if you want to remove the "red eyes" from the family photos. But these programs are always so limited... 
 
Meet GIMP aka GNU Image Manipulation Program. - Gimp is free to use, is Open Source, and runs in Windows, Mac or Linux. 
 
If you are reading this you are probably interested in image manipulation, to personalize your profile, avatar or something like that. Gimp has the right tools.
