Fun Comics

I felt like I was noticing a trend in some of the comics I most like. At first I thought it was that they all seemed to have a youth about them, but then I realized it wasn't the age or even the feel of a certain age. I think it's that these comics are fun and funny, and just as good as they are fun and funny. I love me some serious (be that thoughtful or dramatic) comics, but there's something about a comic that's just fun. Something that makes you feel a glow of joy in your chest when you read it. Better yet is a comic that's fun like that but doesn't sacrifice an ability to say something about our world while doing it.

List items

  • This book and Hawkeye basically made this list but this one probably more so. Granted, it was made for precisely that purpose, I'm pretty sure.

  • I see Hawkeye as a pretty laid back book. Stuff is going on but it's kind of just an experience to let happen and be glad you can experience.

  • I've loved this since issue one and it continues to bring a smile to my face with every issue. Surprisingly it's not just the kids that make that happen, but Logan has never been funnier.

  • The grown ups in this can sometimes skew a little less fun, but between the other times and the kids, this earns its place on my list. And that it can go back and forth between (if not just simultaneously have) fun and serious is to it credit.

  • I think X-Factor goes in and out of this list, but when it's in, it's in.

  • Similar to Uncanny, there's serious stuff going on here, but it has as much fun with its premise as is possible. Maybe even more.

  • Yes, I'm tossin and oldie on here. After seeing word that this book was coming back, I had to go and take another look at the original. I don't know what the new one will be without Priest, but as it first existed, this book fits my list.
