@luckycharmz: he could have prevented so many innocent deaths by killing every once in a while.

Outside of a comic book, a court system would never be so incompetent as to let these criminals.

outside of a comicbook, the police wouldn't be able to use the evidence he gives them. furthermore, the criminals would be released because Batman isn't a police officer. Also, the criminals would be able to sue Batman because you can't just break into places and beat the crap out of people because they are wanted criminals.

Not so good neighbor!

1. The police COULD use most evidence obtained for them by Batman (or other vigilantes who knew how to properly handle evidence)...except for the violence induced confessions of course. Thing is, if an agent of the court (a cop, someone from he District Attorney's office, or others) official were to collect evidence in the highly illegal way Batman the case would be thrown right out of court on a ruling known as "Fruit of the Poisonous Tree". Basically, any evidence (statements, evidence gotten from where a tainted piece of evidence CAME from would now no longer be admissible. However! Batman is NOT an agent of the court, he's a private citizen. There's no law about him handing over evidence, (pictures, voice recordings, etc) to the police because he's not an officer of the court, even though how he GOT the evidence was highly illegal.

2. In almost every jurisdiction I can think of (besides federal and some states' State Highway Patrols a citizen's arrest is perfectly legal and valid. Now, as far as my understanding goes (my best friend holds a Bachelors in Criminal Justice...that's where I've gotten this info from) the police will do their best do detain someone making a citizen's arrest (detaining being different from arresting) for a number of reasons. If there was any sort of assault involved (duh this is Batman lol), finding out which one of these guys is the real bad guy, they might have just gotten into a fight and the winner is trying to make it look like the other is a crook to get out of it, all the way up to nothing more than getting the Citizen Arrester's info for follow up statements or court appearances.

Needless to say, Batman doesn't stick around for all that, he just leaves enough damming evidence with the trussed up bad guy and the evidence will be enough (assuming Batman knows what he's doing...which...I mean we usually do) to get the bad guy at LEAST arraigned.

3. Of COURSE they're gonna want to sue him America! Land of litigation! They have to find him first though. ;)
