Ranking The Top 5 Shooting Guards In The League

5. C.J. McCollum

C.J. is one of those weird cases of players who go from alright, to All Star talent. It's the reason he won the 2016 Most Improved Player Award. Finally healthy he's averaging an impressive 25 points per game. Last season he ranked top 10 in pick-and-roll scoring and and 25 in spot up shooting. Plus it helps that he's part of an elite back court duo with Damian Lillard.

4. Jimmy Butler

Jimmy "Buckets" Butler has been fairly clutch as of late. He's currently top 10 in clutch time stats this season and averaging around 25 points like C.J. What makes him better however is Butler's superb defense. He's one of the few very talented two way guards, or for that matter players in general.

3. Klay Thompson

You know Draymond Green is a a heck of a defender when the dude pictured above isn't the best defender on his team. That's the sad thing to. Klay's defense is superb but yet it goes completely un-noticed by most. You'll be hard pressed to find even TWO players that are better than Klay at timing when to come off screens. And it's a pretty big deal too. If you go too early the pick plays it's purpose. If you go too late, player you're attempting to defend will likely have already popped a shot. He's currently averaging just above 20 points and I have him above Jimmy because of slightly better defense and IDK being one of the best 3 point shooters ever. And in dark times for the Warriors when KD is out Klay has risen to the challenge and has become more valuable to the Warriors than ever.

2. James Harden

I see the pitchforks already. The 3rd leading scorer, leader in assists, and has carried his team to the 7th best record in the league and 3rd in the West? Who could be above him? Well if it helps at all I can tell you I spent quite a lot of time jumping Harden up to 1 then back to 2. But let's get to why Harden deserves to be in the Top 2. For one, he IS the Mvp for me (but I think #1 also has a fair case.). He's taking mediocre players, and turning them into a team to be reckoned with. On top of that he's dropping buckets upon buckets. Players really should be fearing the beard. Unlike Klay, which just happens to be Klay's largest flaw (In my opinion at least) Harden is one of a 2 players who can create his own shot as efficiently as the number 1 pick. On the other hand a large percentage of Klay's shots come assisted.

Honorable Mentions:

-Dwyane Wade (Ageing and health has really brought him down)

-Victor Oladapio (Fantastic defender, but offensive game leaves much to be desired)

-Andrew Wiggins (I really wanted to put him on this list but CJ really has the better case over him. I can definetly see him next season)

-J.J. Reddick (Great 3pt. shooter. Like Klay a large % of his shots come assisted but Klay is a far superior defender.)

1. DeMar DeRozan

Yes I'm bias!! I don't care! On a more serious note though I have DeRozan over Harden for a couple reasons. For one I had Harden on this list for one reason. His outstanding ability to make other players better and his scoring ability. But no matter how you cut out, no matter how you put it JAMES HARDEN IS A PISS POOR DEFENDER. He also can't match DeRozan's mid-range game or ability to get to the paint. He's not the same isolation player DeRozan is. He's not the athlete DeRozan is. And when it comes down to it work ethic goes to DeRozan. Think about it. He overcame un-refined skills with hard work. He went from a liability on defense to a competent defender. So the minute Harden becomes a competent defender #1 spot belongs to him. And if DeRozan can pull the Raps out of the 4th seed in the East, to 3rd so they can avoid Cleveland in a potential 2nd round match up to save any confrontation til the conference finals he is the MVP in my book. Because he would've had to do so with an inconsistent JV, Serge Ibaka and WITHOUT all star Point Guard Kyle Lowry. Because let's be honest. Boston nor Washington is taking Toronto in a best of 7 series. The 2 truly best teams in the East are Cleveland and Toronto. But injury to key players would lead others to believe otherwise.

Now I'm just waiting for the haters :(
