Evolution of (Cinematic) Bat-Suit!

Ok so this is a new thing I've been hoping to do. It's where I take a look at the evolution of Cinematic (or television) costumes. So far I have this one (obviously!), Spiderman and Flash with the (pretty) recent leak ofthe JL costume for The Flash.

So let's start at the beginning 1943's Batman

Obviously this is the most outdated but still looks a bit more practical to me than the 1966 Batsuit. It made it's first debut in 1943 in the 15 part theatrical serial. It's been around for awhile appearing only after 4 years after the first appearance of Batman himself (1939)

The suit pictured above is featured in the 1966 Adam West Batman TV show and in the movie based on the 66 show. It was made in a time where comic characters were more campy and that included Batman. So obviously if we had a real Batman this would probably be the least practical. It goes with our iconic emblem, belt and "underwear" on the outside.

Next is 89's Batman

This picture showcases pretty well the elements of this suit. It retains our Bat Belt and underwear but it went completely Black making it more practical and realistic for stealth based tactics and working at night. This also introduced no-neck moving cowl being directly attached to the cape and a latex cowl. It also provides a more realistic feel with a more armored suit.

Now moving on to Batman Returns

This suit is very similar to our 89 suit with a few modifications. The biggest one quite honestly is the way they "sculpted" the abs on the outside of the suit. Lots of people have pointed out that the suit looks off because of this.

Now we start we the Schumacher portion of our suits. This suit (or era) that strays the farthest from your typical Batsuit. It has more grey on the suit with almost zero black replacing it with silverish highlights. It seems that it's now that we lost our "underwear" (weirdest phrase ever).

......No. Next

Here we have..... *sighs* Fine.

What is this?! How!? This isn't even Batman! Take away our ears and symbol and no one could tell you that's Batman! You don't even have the belt to remotely tell you who it is! I'm fine with different costumes and a fresh take with a character but not when you take away core elements of the costume! And.... Bat-Nipples? At least we got better things after this. Like....

The Nolan Batman. This is by far the most practical and realistic take on the character. Especially for stealth based tactics and night use. The neck (like Keaton's) couldn't move until the final installment The Dark Knight Rises (2012) in the trilogy and part of the second The Dark Knight (2008). It started off being a heavier suit to safeguard Batman in his early adventures in Batman Begins (2005) and moved on to a lighter suit in the second film. So contained in it's own trilogy the suit has adapted as well.

And finally my favorite suit..

This suit in my mind is the definitive live-action Batman suit. It's got most of the aspects of the comic version (Black and grey, belt , leathery suit) , takes cues from Greg Capullo's Batman, Jim Lee's Batman, FM's Batman and the Arkham games,

Jim Lee Batman

Capullo Batman

Arkham Batman

Frank Miller Batman

And finally since the suit is more form- fitting his body doesn't look fake (But that's more on the actor's part Ben Affleck for getting ripped!).

So there you guys have it! The evolution of Batman's cinematic costumes over the years! Hope you guys enjoyed! Tag me if you have any ideas for what I can do next!
