What a coincidence.

So I was reading a blog from one of the writers on Newsrama about her moving away to another city or state, not sure which. And how it was gonna be hard for her to find a comic shop that was as good as the one she had been going to in her town.

Which got me thinking the same thing. I am gonna be moving away from my town and have to find another LCS to start going to. I've been going to my comic shop for about a year now and its not really local since its about 45 minutes away from where I live. But now, I'm gonna be moving 5 hours south of my current location. And when I searched for the nearest comic shop from there, its about an hour and a half away. Which is pretty lame, but I guess worth it. Thing is at my comic shop, I got to know the owner since it was just him working there, it was a pretty small comic shop. But I got to know him pretty well.

So I guess my main concern is how well this new comic shop keeps up with pull lists, how friendly the staff is,etc. I feel like a comic shop has to be a pretty good experience in order for customers to keep coming back. Maybe its just me? There's only one way to find out.

Bat_Mite Origins

This is my first real blog post so I might just sound like I'm rambling on and on. I wasn't too sure what I wanted to write about so I just started from the beginning of my comic collecting days.

I started reading comic books about a year ago. My girlfriend picked me up the Batman RIP graphic novel and I loved the story. I guess people were pretty divided, some loved it and some hated it. But personally, it was what got me into collecting comics. After that, I started picking up a more graphic novels until I was able to find my LCS. Which was pretty hard to find since it was fairly well hidden in a town about 45 minutes away. I started collecting single issues as well as some stories in graphic novel form.
Batman has always been my favorite superhero but I never actually got into comic books. Mainly because there weren't any comic shops close to my home.
But once I found one, I immediately became addicted to them. In a good way. I enjoyed Morrsion's run on Batman, Batman & Robin, and Batman Inc. I guess I can say, Morrison's stories are what got me into the comics. I started a pull list and buying any back issues or graphic novels to catch up with what was going on. Which was a lot easier than I had expected.

And then, DC announced the relaunch and the New 52. And everything was about to change. I thought everything I had known about Batman before was gonna change. I spent a lot of time catching up and it wasn't gonna count for anything anymore. But honestly, it didn't matter to me in the end. I did spend a lot of money on the comics prior to the the relaunch, but that didn't change the fact that I loved these stories. That it was worth reading to me. And then I found out that a lot of Batman's history didn't change with the New 52. Which to me was a win-win. Now I get to collect Batman starting from issue #1.

But not just Batman, I read a few more of the New 52, some that I never would have read before. I tried to mix it up. And I loved all the ones I read and will continue collecting for who knows how long. I don't expect any of these issues to be worth a lot of money someday, I just know that they are worth reading to me. As long as I enjoy them, that's all that matters to me.
