Biography:
Little is known of Vatian Raas other than his presumed planet of origin: Uanoth. Situated on the more civilized cusp of the Outer Rim territories, it suffered an experimental virus bomb attack from Imperial forces following an uprising against the Empire-sanctioned governor. Millions were killed in the streets, and Uanoth was left a husk of its former glory. Population centers became death traps. The only way the natives could survive was by living inside fallout shelters until the virus eventually died out - which, inevitably, it did.
The planet was ravaged and left completely barren by disease and death. Many did not survive the ensuing brutal winter, called the Age of Cold Reaping. Without suitable vegetation cover, Uanoth's seasonal changes wrought havoc upon its surface. The natives were at an impasse. They had to join with one of the nearby factions for support, and the Empire was not above massacring its people. So, they signed with the Federation.
Uanoth, still vaguely close to Imperial space, was blockaded and besieged from all sides upon news of this "betrayal" coming to the ears of the nearby Darths. Of course, "betrayal" could be tracked from native Uanothans to Imperial forces back and forth for decades prior to this. Uanoth was wiped clean of any mineral wealth following global nuclear strikes that lasted for three standard weeks. Anything even relatively valuable about the world faded into obscurity. It became little more than a footnote in the grand schemes of the Federation, a sickly-brown and irradiated marble for its collection.
But then, two hundred years later, Vatian Raas rose to power. He knew of Uanoth's history and of its suffering, a parallel to frame that of the Federation against its Imperial rival. His motives and origins a closely-guarded secret, he posed as a lost son of Uanoth who became a Senator of the Republic in order to try and find justice for his estranged homeworld. When he found none, he returned to the Federation in order to organize a far greater war than the one they were already waging.
Lightsaber:

It is not commonly known that Vatian has a lightsaber. Even those well-versed in the socioeconomic factors of the Galaxy cannot paint Vatian Raas as a man interested in the Force or its applications. As such, his construction of the blade went completely unnoticed. He will not use it for self-defense unless provoked.
A green kyber crystal feeds into the coloration of the weapon itself. Its ornate handle is constructed with layers of ornamental precious golds and black metals. He did possess a gold variant long ago, but was forced to disarm.
It is a standard pattern, though that lends itself to the application of his mastery of Form Three.
Soresu:
One of the definitive styles of the Jedi Order, the Way of the Mynock is a stance that dictates balance in defensive warfare and in the wearing-down of an opponent through attritional counterattacks and feints.
Though it relies on such things, patience is the key to a Soresu master. Vatian can dictate which combat he faces when, choosing how to fight rather than bending over backwards to commandeer the situation away from his enemies. He is particularly fond of forcing an opponent into fighting rather than merely waiting for an opportunity to counterattack. Whether through feints, chewing away at his foe's stamina using the Force, or by verbal taunts, Vatian seemingly always has a means of guiding the counterattack to his advantage.
Shien/Djem So:
Usually leading with Soresu, Vatian much prefers Djem So. His large frame and overwhelming reach with a lightsaber as well as his Force Amplification power leads him into the aggressive and overwhelming power of Form Five more often than not. Though, in order to recover stamina, he will often switch to Soresu to force opponents to take what advantage they have before he returns to Djem So.
Such is his favored form of combat, where he dictates the duel through guile and pure unrelenting power.
