  • I really, really wish there were more of these. They joy Azzarello has writing the characters is totally infectious. And this made me fall in love with Cliff Chiang the way I love Mike Allred.

  • I love Madman & Mike Allred in general, but this series is what hooked me. Specifically, in issue #3 (I think) when he fights the skinless strongman while waxing philosophical about the nature of violence. (!!!) It blew my mind and re-defined what I thought comic books could and should be.

  • While Y: The Last Man is a better 'hook', for my money, this is Brian Vaughan's most consistently excellent series. It perfectly blends thoughtful and relevant socio-political discussions with fine-tuned character development, intrigue, and excitement. (I just wish it were easier to convince people to read it.)

  • If you don't read this, you must hate awesomeness.

  • One of the few books that lives up to its hype. The James Jean covers lured me in when I wasn't originally interested in the idea. But the great, slow-boil development actually pays off. That's rare in any medium. (Though "The Great Fables Cross-Over" didn't do much for me.)

  • I don't think any comic more perfectly embodies what I want from the medium. Like Doctor 13 & Madman, it simultaneously fulfills and satirizes what's great about comics - while still being more inventive than almost any 'straight' comic out there. This is very clearly a big influence on my writing.

  • More love for Mike Allred! Though the social commentary here is darker (and a little more heavy-handed), it still hits the mark and strides with much more honesty than a lot of 'serious' comics - without losing its sense of joy.

  • Like I can say anything that hasn't been said about the series.

Though I can say that when I first met him, I was worried he'd be horrible and it would taint my love of the series. That didn't happen. He was great.

  • The best new Marvel idea of the last 20 years. Soooo gratifying. And despite great talents taking a crack at it (Joss Whedon, Terry Moore, ME) - no one has worked the same magic with these kids that BKV did.

  • My first and most influential 'series'. This title had its ups and downs - but at its best, it was inventive, emotional, and truly wondrous. It was (and continues to be) one of the biggest benchmarks by which I judge mainstream comics.
