I remember that one of the reasons for not doing an event with the new 52 this past 2 years was because DC wanted to "define" who this characters were and make "their" stories and etc
and honestly I agree with that line of thinking.
Except that such promised only lasted like 6 months.
It is true that there was no big massive event but with all the other crossover events going on Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Teen Titans, it seems that very few titles were given the space and time to tell their own stories and define what the book was really about.
For example Nightwing has been pretty much tied to Batman as much as GLC is to GL.
so a lot if not all the developments from the book somehow came from that association.
when NotO ended I remember reading this interview with Higgins where he was talking about making Dick Grayson into the "Prince of Gotham" and that he was going to focus on "the new heirs of Gotham" like the new generation counting him, Sonia Zucco and the assistant of the mayor whose life he saved on NotO.
WELL, none of that happen, and as Nightwing got trap yet again in another crossover event with DotF, it basically completely changed the status quo so that he could move to Chicago(why Chicago and not Bludhaven? Because DC hates Chuck Dixon).
And for a moment I actually thought that maybe MAYBE, now we will get something with Nightwing, about Nightwing. you know define what the hell is the book about.
WELL NO!
we need more crossovers, more stuff that is happening to him because of some big event, even including Forever Evil, and I know, I KNOW, that it will have one if not several tie-ins to that event.
My point is, Why the hell should anyone buy and read Nightwing, IF THE BOOK NOT ABOUT NIGHTWING!
and this is not a complain about Higgins, I think he is a very good writer, but the book has no direction, it reminds me a lot of the old Ms Marvel book that lasted for 50 issues and pretty much every single arc is related to a crossover event that had nothing to do with Ms Marvel.
I feel the same with many other books.
Does anyone else feel the same?
