I dont know if anyone has mentioned it because i really only skimmed this thread but Lobo has had his head (and everything else) cut, blown, smashed, chopped and still kept going. This cover could very well be followed by a cover where the original Lobo is winning the fight.
Also, comics (and DC is particular) are really good at making covers that have nothing to do with what happens inside the book. I'm not going to give up hope because of a cover.
@greatcaesarsghost: im with you. i love 80's action too. I just dont know if anyone in comics could do it right. and if they did would the suits let it go.
@greatcaesarsghost: I think there were a lot more reasons for people buying DN4E then marketing. you had nostalgia for the brand, curiosity since it was like 11 years in the making, and of course the people who just buy whatever comes out. of all the people who bought that game i'd like to know how many actually enjoyed it.
your getting stories mixed up. The idea that Lobo was trapped in hell and it was a fake Lobo we all knew was from the old DC (before the new 52 rebooted the entire universe) and it was in a mini called "Reign in hell". it is still one of my favorite ideas for using Lobo but of course it never actually went anywhere. I don't think they ever followed that storyline.
The new Lobo that everyone hates is the teen looking one and the story there is that he is the real Lobo and the Lobo that we all know is someone who escaped Czarnia and started pretending to be Lobo. If you wanna read that stuff you start with Justice League #23.2 and then it goes into supergirl from there.
unfortunately right now if you're talking about the current Lobo, you're talking about the one everyone hates. He is considered the "real" Lobo now in the DCU.
I have done everything i can to give this new Lobo a shot and I actually like him. I understand character have to change. an 80's over the top character is not going to make it now a days, but i hate what they are doing to change him. The "he had a family" stuff is just cliche' and lazy. there is a bad guy but we need people to like him so we make them pity him by having some tragedy in his past that made him this way. THATS EVERY VILLIAN EVER! If you feel the need to give him a reason for being evil, fine, but be creative.
I have tried really hard to give the new Lobo a shot and for the most part i like him. i like the personality but i hate the look. but "He had a job and a family" makes me HATE HIM. i've tried to be as open minded as possible but trying to give him a backstory that will make people pity him is not only gross but lazy ass writing. "He had everything he loved torn away from him so he became evil" is the most cliche' BS and it makes me sick. I will still buy these comics because i still collect everything Lobo, but i will try my best not to buy them from a comic store because i do no want to support DC in this.
