I LOVE the Joker and want to scream "yes" to the heavens but I just can't. The Joker's random, psychotic teasing just wouldn't work in a universe of villians with plans and heroes who play for keeps like Marvel. If you put Shadowcat in a wheelchair or beat Gambit to death for fun Wolverine's not going to take the High Road and NOT kill you. All and all Joker's motives just aren't Marvel's style.

Two years tops if you intend on bringing them back. My advice is, if you can't think of an explanation better than "It was a clone." or "They were lost time" don't bother. Also if the character has been gone 30 years or more save it for the Reboot.

In keeping with your request I will ignore the fact that they aren't really a good match and limit my response to a temporal one. A year and a half ,two years tops to explore the relationship properly is best. While I don't like the idea anything shorter would be too much of a gimmick.

Superman's adoption does Not make him any less an orphan. If that were the case Spiderman being raised his aunt & uncle (in a stable home well into his teens ) would also be disqualified.
