@allstarsuperman: Heh. My brother's a big fan of Millar but I honestly absolutely can't stand the man, so I refuse to read/buy anything of his.

Read Superior Foes of Spider-Man. Best MARVEL comic right now

@akbogert: IIRC you don't like his dirtiness, he has actually cleaned up some. Kick-Ass 3 was actually the cleanest and probably most character driven arc of the series. And the ending is just perfect. If you don't read it whatevs but I loved it and its a big deal at least for me considering its the last issue forever.

If you would like a new Millar series thats also not along the lines of Wanted or Nemesis, theres Starlight and MPH which barely curse and I don't think a single person has been gutted or anything. lol. They are both really good.

As for your list I have only read a couple issues of both Black Widow and Punisher but they both rock, so I want to catch up and read the crossover.

I've been wanting to start reading the series myself. What recent issue would be a good jumping-on point? If I like it I'll probably go back and buy the trades.

You really have to start from issue 1 to get the whole experience. It's worth it. Pick up Volume 1. Here I got a good website for you where you can buy cheap trades. http://www.instocktrades.com/search/Superior%20Foes

@madeinbangladesh: Thanks for the link, man. I'll probably just order them with my Amazon Prime account for the two-day shipping. Maybe this weekend.

You should give instocktrade a chance. THey almost have 50% off on most of the the books. I saved so much money buying trades from the site

@allstarsuperman: My problem with Millar goes beyond the content of some of his books (though yeah, sure, it's there too) but his personality and the things he has said in interviews. His approach to the depiction of rape in particular -- in KA2 -- was the last straw for me. But yeah, content too... I was scrolling through Tumblr the other day and saw an image of some woman impaled a dozen different ways, which made my stomach turn. Looked at the caption and sure enough, written by Millar. Only writer whose work I'm less likely to touch with a ten foot pole is Garth Ennis.

Glad to hear that other stuff of his may be more palatable, but there are so many other creators I'd rather give money to than him.

As for the books, I must admit I was sorely disappointed. I'm not following either but thought the crossover would be a good way to check out both series -- neither was even remotely memorable, and while Black Widow at least had Noto's art as a saving grace I can't say much of anything good about the Punisher issue. I'd been worried reading them would make me feel conflicted, but ultimately I was just relieved that I didn't need to feel bad about not buying those titles.

@madeinbangladesh: I hear good things about it, and I love Morning Glories (so I'm keen on Spencer's writing), but I already have too many books on my pull. Perhaps if I drop something -- Bendis is beginning to piss me off with his depiction of Laura, and Slott's almost begging for me not to want to read his Spider stuff anymore -- I will replace it with Foes.

@akbogert: Did you read the latest All NEW X-MEn? It thought it was really good and he wrote X-23 pretty well

@madeinbangladesh: I could not possibly disagree more.

My exact comments were "As anticipated, I despised ANXM #30. Laura in retrograde. Badly."

There was not a single moment in that book where I recognized the character -- and rereading sections of Liu's run (and Laura in Academy) doubly reinforces that impression. Not only was everything she said completely wrong for her character, but having her jump into bed with someone she barely knows, given her past, was insulting; having her apologize for what she has done, when she'd already developed to the point of not blaming herself for that stuff anymore, also insulting.

I'm actually probably dropping the book soon after seeing this.

@akbogert: Well I'm not a huge x-23 fan I could care less. I thought her moment with Angel was sweet. And Emma Frost and Young Jean finally bonded. I thought it was written very well.

Did you drop Uncanny X-Men also? I see some of X-MEN fans not liking what Bendis has been doing. I have been loving mostly what he has been doing with X-MEN since this has been my first time reading full monthly X-MEn runs and not just trades.

She's my favorite character, so yeah, I'm going to be more aware of what in-character constitutes and what it doesn't considering how much of her I have read and how much I care about her.

Now in that same vein, this is the first X-Men run I've ever read, and as such if he is writing other characters just as poorly, I at least don't know enough of their pasts to be offended by it. I really liked the non-Laura half, sure, and the idea of Jean and Emma getting along is definitely one I can see being fun going forward (though could it possibly last? Haha).

I have not yet dropped either book, to be clear, it's just that I can't really take much more of Bendis!Laura because she is so patently not the character I just said is my favorite. To the extent that ANXM is a lot of O5 and now badly-written X-23, I could probably drop it without too many tears shed. But UXM is for the most part comprised of new characters, whom I like, and while the two books were pretty inter-connected at the start they feel a lot less so lately, so I'd probably keep reading UXM even if I drop ANXM.

I have been reading both books from the beginning. So obviously I don't hate what Bendis is doing in general, and I don't hate him as a writer. But characterization is a really important thing to me and when it's really off for a character I know and love, that makes it very hard to read. I'll even go so far as to say that there could have been an inoffensive way for the same general events to have happened and me not feel like it was out of character; but every time Laura opens her mouth here, someone else is speaking, and comic books are too expensive to pay to be annoyed by them.
