Coolest Marvel and DC Character Designs

This is mostly about their overall looks not so much their backgrounds. This is taking into consideration mainly Marvel and DC characters as they've appeared in comics. I didn't want to include characters that begin in other media but have worked their way into comic books as that wouldn't really be an interesting comparison so I just made this between DC and Marvel.

List items

  • As epic as the classic image of Odin with robes and a wizard hat is, Marvel's Odin just looks more grandiose. The design for Odin that Marvel made is seriously badass.

  • Nearly all of his suits have looked pretty cool, but Rebirth is the best one. The one-half black and one-half orange looks badass and works with his character.

  • Thor's silver armor is cool af. Specifically Worthy Thor when he is fully armored.

  • His powers combined with the styling of his clothing really stand out. It fits the theme of his powers and it is pretty elegant and simple.

  • Cable's design is just way too good.

  • Some of his oldest looks hasn't always been that good, but Quasar's general cosmic design is pretty amazing. The cosmic cape and the symbol are especially neat. Of the Vells and other Quantum Band / Nega Band users, Quasar easily has the coolest costume.

  • Yes. Black Adam suit both New 52 and the classic one is just super cool. It's so simplistic while at the same time saying a lot about the character. The gigantic thunder is all you need to see to understand why you should be afraid. The black creates his alias as Black Adam from Teth-Adam. I almost don't even want to include Billy Batson's costume here just because of how much superior BA's design is.

  • I'm a bigger fan of the more classic heavy armor design than the modern slimmer versions.

  • Specifically Lex Luthor in one of his armors. Those suits are pretty cool.

  • There are a lot of New God designs I like. Of course not all of them, but there are quite many. Darkseid, Lightray, Big Barda being just a few examples. They're pretty exotic and it's cool that they are because...well... they're the New Gods.

  • Ultron's design always terrified me as a kid. To me, he represented the evil of emotionless machines taking over the world. His big smile becomes supremely neutral and eventually, you see it as complete evil.

  • I like the Maker's design for similar reasons to some New God designs. It's unique and has a general feeling of awesomeness to it.

  • The red hood and armor with the flaming sword always looked badass.

  • I can't decide if I like Lane's white Azrael armor more. With the Sword of Sin and Salvation, he looks insanely cool. Though I'd probably give an edge to JPV's since I think the red looks cooler than the white.

  • The newer Doctor Fate designs with the cosmic texture is pretty cool. I'd say it's an overall improvement on the design, and adding the ankh and adding more metal is also neat.

  • Just figured I'd include the classic Fate too. His design felt like it was reality-breaking in nature.

  • The New 52 and some of the rebirth showings of Atom make him pretty similar to Manhattan. I think that his design is superior to Manhattan even simply because it's a little more complex while retaining the same idea.

  • Living Tribunal's design is kind of amazing actually. It may seem a bit cartoonish at first, but the idea of him having three faces for judgment and the fact that he is an insanely powerful cosmic are pretty cool.

  • Another cosmic god that has been portrayed for what it is. There isn't a more evil character design than Mikaboshi's.

  • Pretty basic, but still pretty cool.

  • I hate his newer designs. The old costume was pretty colorful and green. It made sense for a trickster to have such fun colors. Almost as if he doesn't care how other people see it he's there to have fun.

  • More specifically, DC Comics Ares. The dark fully armored entity that is Ares in DC was done right. Now if only they would portray Achilles in fiction in a similar manner.

  • Both the Kingdom Come armor and a few of his other designs from time to time have impressed me.

  • Never really been a big fan of her character, but her design was always pretty cool. Her costume reflects her persona as well so it's pretty great.

  • A simple design that say's just what it needs to say about the character.

  • This costume is kind of ridiculous, but at the same time, it's pretty interesting. It's intensely black, and I remember seeing some Black Panther art where his suit just fades into the darkness of night. So in terms of that concept, the Black Panther suit is up there for me.

  • Whenever Venom infuses into someone he makes him/her look menacing and more organic. It's always fun to see the designs that come out when the symbiote latches on to someone.

  • Remy's design is kind of interesting. It's seemingly random while at the same time it stands out. Also, Gambit's eyes are pretty insane-looking.

  • I was thinking that Nightcrawler could be made fun of as a blue monkey for a second until I realized he is actually pretty cool. He's demon looking and can teleport from place to place leaving behind blue smoke. His powers and body are pretty cool, but his costume itself isn't very special.

  • The color choices are not justified, but look cool. The overall armor that Prometheus sports are pretty special and make him look like the absolute boss that he is.

  • A more bulky and militarized look to the Iron Man suit. Pretty badass.

  • A very colorful and imaginative suit that fits well for such a fun and young character.

  • Pretty awesome and story-driven design here. Half of her face is pretty hideous because she's a demon, but she's proud of that side. Then someone comes and heals her and she is technically supposed to be ugly even though she just becomes a pretty chick at that point.

  • Black Knight would be so much higher in this list if his helmet wasn't half open at the mouth in most of his designs. I think he has begun to wear a better helmet though that's fully covered.

  • Skull is a little over the top but is an overall nice touch to some cool armor and weaponry. Also, man uses a shield with sword, which is honestly one of the best combinations to use.

  • His rebirth Nightwing design is so cool and sleek. The simplicity of Nightwing's costume, as opposed to his Robin costume, was part of what made Nightwing such a cool transition for Dick.

  • His design is kind of basic, but the idea of it is still pretty unique and cool.

  • I can't really explain why I like Black Bolt's costume, but I just do.

  • Her humanoid look was way cooler. Plus they made her a speedster and able to contend with Wonder Woman so bonus points for that.

  • The fiery hair is pretty cool. The designs on his suit are okay. It has varied from time to time. There are some designs I like others that are more questionable.

  • The visor along with the power has always been pretty cool.

  • Before the armor. Any design before the armor with her original simplistic black costume is pretty neat. Along with her powers, she looks pretty badass. Her new sword looks pretty cool as well so bonus points for that.

  • I would put his costume on the more ridiculous side, but there is something about it that always stood out to me.
