The Evil that Men Do was a powerful story, I had to stop reading at one point because of that one scene.

Great list. I must say I agree with your brief analysis except for No 8 & 9.

Never really been a fan of the Ultimate universe, even though I own various issues from Vol 1.

I can't blame you,i would have been like that, only if i didnt start reading Spider-Man,from the Ultimate books....my first comicbook was Ultimate #4 so i have a love for the series.........but i am a huge fan of the 616 Green Goblin,so the Hulk-Goblin is awful,to me.

I suppose I forget sometimes that the Ultimate Universe would've been the first comic book picked up by some folks, and of course that is going to have a huge impact in terms of first impressions.

Other than the alternative origins that didn't really gel with me ( I grew up with 616 Universe) I have to say from the Vol 1 issues I do have, is that they're very well written and beautifully illustrated on good quality paper.

The whole thing worked because of Brian and Mark......if not for them the thing would have been a huge flop, like any other attempt, for an alternative version of ANY given hero........no surprise the other Ultimate books sucked and still suck....

Remember the "all -star" alternate Universe by DC?.......Batman was given to Frank Miller and Jim Lee!!....and it sucked HARD!!....because they tried to change some things to an already perfect character!....Bendis didnt change the character....he changed the world around him!!....that the difference that made people like the series....and it was cool, you have a married, teacher in Amazing, and a 16 yr old student in Ultimate.....pick and choose, you know!? :)

And being a 10 yr old then,it was perfect, for me.

I agree with everything except for the Ultimate spiderman at number 11. I admit I might be a little biased against the Ultimate universe as I am a 616 person myself. But I honestly didn't care for the "Symbiote Saga" in Ultimate spiderman. In fact I think it might have been one of the weaker storylines.

It made a lot more sense than the 616 one ,though......and i was an Ultimate person until Peter died,so i have a lot of love for the universe.

You'll love it.
Seriously.

It has everything in it.
And Spidey is a tad more serious, because the situation is more serious (as a Batman fanboy to another. :P)

Thanks for making this. I only "liked" Spider-Man before I read Marvel Knights but now I love this character. I have a whole new respect for Millar now. Next I'm on to Family business, I'm working on Ultimate. And I'm reading Superior.

Read Superior it's CRAZY fun,BUT......realise that it's not Spider-Man.Just have that in mind.

Also,Ultimate is phenomenal, and the best thing Spider-Man,along with JMS' ASM run.
Trust me.

@punyparker: I haven't read it yet I was just wondering how it was. The art in Family Business is amazing. That guy should draw every Spider-man comic.

He was good, but then ASM was written by a team of 5-7 people, believe it or not.....it was coming out every week.
