Spider-Man was not their character. This industry is all about money, and they wouldn't just make Spider-Man what he SHOULD be when it's not their property. THey wouldn't shove Tony Stark into a corner because the Sony kid came in to boss everything.
Not every Mary Jane but its pretty hard to not immediately get Lois Lane and Iris West vibes from this version of her. The independent journalist career priority love interest.
I just don't feel this version of her has characteristics that make her unique or that her own journalist love interest version is all that different from Lois or Iris.
Sure, not disputing that, but they didn't neglect or insult the character. And to be frank, we can all say that MJ was a party animal when she was in college, and now they're adults. She can't be clubbing in her 20s without a job, i know it from experience LOL
Funny thing, just yesterday I watched the "Silver Lining" DLC and for the love of god that is not freaking MJ, the video game character is a good character on her own, but man that girl is definitely not Mary Jane, not a single thing do they have in common, this was more Lois Lane. The game would be PERFECT if they had done a good MJ, she is the only thing holding me back from calling it a perfect Spider-Man game.
That's what I say about PS4 Mary Jane.
She has the name Mary Jane Watson but she's basically Lois Lane in Lana Lang's auburn haired body.
Now now, she has some characteristics. I wasn't compeletely against that version of MJ, she was fine.
Not every MJ should be a party girl model/actress, after all.
