Writers want to write massive stories. and forget that Thor must be grounded to Earth as an integral part of his character. Donald is Thor's life. Writers tend to go so big they forget that. Donald is everyday existence for Thor. Donald isn't a problem, the writers are the problem. They are so busy doing Odin vs Galactus or Asgard vs the World Eaters Thor's life on Earth gets lost. Thor needs to be tied to Earth more.
Regardless, the arrogant god needing to learn a lesson of humility and become a god of the common people shouldn't end up with a 'goddess'. He needs to end up with the mortal to make it ideologically sound and show his evolution. He should be fighting to make people see the goddess within Jane, the courageous, selfless, humble, caring mortal who dedicates her life to healing and not harming.
Thor is Donald Blake. He is the same person. He is Thor had he lived a human life. He doesn't have a real biography until Odin plops him down in medical school. There is no Mama Blake or Papa Blake
JMS has confused the matter and currently they seem to be written as two different people in the ongoing while everything else shows them as the same. You have no idea how many people who came in with the JMS relaunch think Don is his own man. Its something Marvel needs to clarify and stamp out.
JJ Field looks like a different person. I'm disappointed his union jack isn't more pronounced on the costume. That could have dispelled a lot of the fears about jingoism but as it is they have subdued the national hero of another nation in favour of Cap. Its just unnecessary and a little sad.
