BKV showing his off his Pride 0

Inspired by real events this story is a book you should have Pride in owning.  The story is told from the perpective of a Pride of lions in a Baghdad Zoo, who find themselves having to fend for themselves in the harsh and dangerous deserts of Baghdad.  Trapped in a hell created by Man, these lions must find a way to survive.  The best part on this book is the classic Brian K. Vaughn ending.  We are so attached to these characters that the final few pages pulls hard on emotional heart strings.  B...

The Secret Reason Why Nobody Writes Good War Stories Any More 4

When you make your living cutting brand new worlds whole cloth from your personal mental firmament, it takes a special kind of writer to splatter those brain children over twenty-odd pages of cheap newsprint on a regular basis. For those few writers that have the talent and the creativity, the rewards are minimal, so you'd better love what you're doing. In the minuscule litany of those who love writing comics, there are even fewer who stand out as supernova bright as Brian K. Vaughn.Brian...

    Let Freedom Roar 0

Based on a true story revolving around a group of lions that escaped from the Baghdad Zoo during an American Bombing, Pride of Baghdad follows Zill, Noor, Safa, and little Ali as they find freedom for the first time in ages in a world torn by a war fought by man. If they’re to survive in the wild, they’ll have to abandon their daily meals and fresh water for dangerous game and blood soaked water. It’s not so much a look at survival as it is the cost and effects of freedom. As they traverse the c...

    Exploring New Horizons 2

This original graphic novel is based on real events that occurred in Baghdad back in 2003 when four lions escaped the Baghdad Zoo during the bombing of Iraq. The viewpoints of these four animals are completely fictional and are written by award winning writer Brian K. Vaughan. Accompanying him is the talented artist Niko Henrichon. Together they produce a vivid and vibrant, yet tragic story that chronicles these four lions final moments before they are shot down by U.S. soldiers.  I like how Vau...

Liberated Lions & Caged Animals 8

Overview  I consider this a gem of a graphic novel, that is still somewhat underrated despite its popularity and praise with those that read it, and also one of the reasons I occasionally lament that comics is so dominated by the superhero genre, otherwise maybe this book might get more recognition. When I say Graphic Novel, I mean in the sense this book is 136 pages long, compared to your standard comic issue, which is about 22 pages, and this is the way it was designed to be read, and its not ...

    For everyone 0

I'm sure you've heard enough about Pride of Baghdad so that I don't have to go over any of the basics. I just want to add that this is a great place to start if you're interested in comics but don't know where to start or what to read. I also think it would be perfect if you're trying to get a friend to read a comic but they're not interested. This is a story that I believe most people will appreciate. You can read it in one sitting and you don't need to know any back story. Please, don't leave...
