Green Arrow killed once in the Grell years and if a character did it once then they can do it again. Green Arrow and Black Canary's love life is not that interesting when they are separated. 
 
Akira was amazing I am about to read volume four (I missed two three). I do think the Marvel characters don't lend themselves to alternative interpretations.
