    History

Years ago, the superheroes Spider-Man and the Sub-Mariner battled the Aquanoids.  This race of "men-fish" was the result of genetic tinkering done to fish by the evil Doctor Lemuel Dorcas at his undersea base.  When, in the course of the battle, the base was destroyed, the surrounding waters were contaminated with radiation from its equipment.  Caught in this mutagenic cloud was a piranha.  Becoming humanoid with a great intellect, he was also "filled with hate" for the Sub-Mariner.

Using his telepathic control over other fish, Piranha ordered them to enter the cloud and thus created his own army of "men-fish."  However, he was not quite up to slaying the Sub-Mariner.  During their battle he was wounded, his blood seeping into the sea and attracting his own non-mutated, carnivorous piranhas, who devoured him and forced him to flee.

    Creation

Piranha was created by Marv Wolfman and George Tuska in 1974 and first appeared in Sub-Mariner # 71.
