Born in 1963 in Brussels, with a degree in Classical Philology (UCL) and a degree in directing (IAD, Louvain-la-Neuve), Pierre-Paul Renders lives in Hénuères with his wife and their three children. On leaving the IAD, he founded a production company with five classmates (AA Les Films Belges) to make their first collective feature film with sketches, of a very Belgian surrealism, Les Sept Péchés Capitaux (1992) for which he committed the short film La Tendresse. After a detour through television and documentaries (mainly for Médecins sans Frontières), he directed, on a screenplay by Philippe Blasband, a first feature film, atypical and unclassifiable, Thomas est amour (2001) awarded at Venice, Montreal, Angers, Gérardmer, Paris, Espoo, Buenos Aires... In collaboration with Denis Lapière, he then embarked on the writing of Comme tout le monde, a screenplay which will give rise in parallel to a sociological-sentimental comedy (2006, with Khalid Maadour, Caroline Dhavernas, Thierry Lhermitte, Chantal Lauby…) and a thick comic strip (drawn by Rudy Spiessert and published in 2007 by Dupuis). In 2006, he imagined the concept of the Alter Ego series and proposed it to Denis Lapière and Dupuis editions. Since 2004, he has supervised writing and directing exercises for students at IAD. He also runs courses for actors facing the camera and occasionally does script-doctoring. Since 1990, he has also been a comics columnist for the Journal du Médecin. In recent years, he has become addicted to board games, where he can pour out the overflow of his desperately playful temperament. Text and photo © Dupuis
