    Pierre Louÿs was born in Belgium but spent most of his life in France. Among his friendships were Oscar Wilde and Andre Gide. He started very soon to show talent for erotic verses and textes, marked by elegance and refinement of style. He was a passionate of Ancient Greece poems, a great source of inspiration for him. He was praised for the sensuality of his work, specially adressing lesbian sex. One of the first lesbian organizations was named after his book, "The Songs of Bilitis". 
     
    His first novel, Aphrodite, was at the time the best-selling  work by any french author. It has been illustrated by Milo Manara, Georges Bess and Claire Wendling in a trilogy published by Humanoids Publishing. His work has been illustrated by most of the best artists on the erotic genre.
