The group is ran by a man named Kragg who wanted to fix a boxing match. Foggy Nelson the district attorney at the time looked into the group after having some suspicion about their motives. Kragg didn't like that Foggy was taking an interest in them and decided to visit him at his office and try to scare him off. Thankfully Daredevil was outside the window listening in and was able to get them to back off.
Daredevil however was not through with group and decided to look more into them himself. He visited their training camp as blind Matt Murdock and learned from his father's former trainer Pop Fenton that this Phoenix group was up to no good and planned to make Kid Gawain, the boxer they recently bought take a fall against Slugger Sloan. Kid Gawain had no interest in taking a fall and made his thoughts known to Kragg. While Kid was walking down the street Phoenix attempted to send a message by working him over but they were fought off by Daredevil who came to Kid's aid.
Later that day Matt and Foggy went to watch the match. Matt made a quick excuse and took off only to knock out Kid using a precise pinch to a pressure point in his neck. He used his amazing sense of touch to recreate the Kids face over his own with makeup. He then entered the ring as Kid. "Kid" then proceeded to destroy Slugger Sloan in the ring only to discover that Kragg had planned to use a machine he smuggled in in the guise of a TV camera to temporary blind Kid during the fight so that he'd lose. Matt already being blind was not effected by the machine and knocked out Slugger Sloan then made a break upstairs to where the machine was fired.
On the way up Fenton, Kid's trainer tossed Daredevil's costume at "Kid" telling him that he figured out that he wasn't the real Kid when he saw the costume and told him to hurry as the real Kid's in trouble. Kid was surrounded by the Phoenix group in his room and charged toward them bravely even though Kragg had a gun drawn on him. Kid was shot and went down, but soon after Daredevil burst in and cleaned up Kragg and the rest of Phoenix. Luckily Kid was going to be okay. Phoenix was then brought to prison what happened after that is unknown.
