Each week we take a comic book collectible and open it up to see what it looks like outside of the packaging. This week we're going to take a look at a DC Comics character that is shaping up to have a bigger role in the DCU, Phantom Stranger.

MattyCollector has released a figure for the Phantom Stranger as part of their Signature Collection line and this was the February figure for their Club Infinite Earth subscription offer. Unfortunately that means it's already sold out. These figures tend to go quickly as they are released in limited quantities. It originally sold for $20 and they usually end up on eBay for about the same price.
My first question was how would this figure be described? Which version of the Phantom Stranger is this supposed to be?

You can see this is the New 52 version since we didn't know much about his past before. It's interesting that they went with him not having an actual name.
These figures can be a mixed bag. They sometimes lack the super-detailed quality that other figures have but the Signature Series features characters that haven't been made into figures before.
At first he looks a little stiff.

These figures do feature a good amount of articulation. You can adjust his arms to make it look like he actually has some sort of a personality.

Even though his origin is closer to the New 52 version, ou can see that they went with an actual medallion that looks more like his pre-New 52 style. It is a little big but adds a little more detailed rather than be a sculpt on the figure.
His cape is a more rubbery material that gives it more shapes and allows it to have a flowing appearance.

Phantom Stranger likes to wear a nice suit. I know the question you're probably asking is, what about his shoes? You can rest assured, he also has a nice pair of shoes.

These figures are good for setting up in different positions. If you have the Constantine figure (that was featured in January), these would go great together. And there is a figure for Pandora coming soon as well (which you can see HERE).
Here's some more shots.

The figure could benefit from a little more detail but having a figure for Phantom Stranger is pretty cool. Even though he has his own series, I didn't think I'd ever see a figure for him.
