What's a Mad Scientest Without a Tropical Island Lair?
The Good: This is a great cover. It's compelling an interesting with the unique perspective. What pretty much sells it is the nice little details where characters' faces and hands touch the 'walls' of Psimon's... skull?
The focus on the characters continues (Without shying away from combat.) on both the heroes and the villains. On the side of the Fearsome Five we're treated to a wonderfully amusing debate over what city they're going to bomb. The heroes get some good development as well, especially on the side of Indigo and Shift, who tread back into adorable territory when they finally open up with each other about their relationship.
Most of the combat is awesome, and still interestingly varied. At the very least, I applaud that the series never resorts to a bunch of characters just wildly using their powers in a big mass of incomprehensible chaos. Each part of the battle is important.
The panel layouts range from good to great at the right moments.
The Bad: As much as I do like this cover, it's too similar to the last cover to have the proper effect, and not similar enough to go for an intended effect of similarity. It's also not as good a design as the last cover.
The art style is headed even more towards the 'Cliff Richards' direction. I'm really not liking this, even though it doesn't look 'awful.' I definitely noticed that the fighting took a bit of a hit from the art's change, some of the scenes definitely didn't look quite as dynamic as they should.
The pacing is a little awkward towards the end of the issue. The fights were a little short, and there were a few little skips. This arc might have worked better if given another issue, cutting this one off right as the fighting began perhaps, and dedicating a bit more time to properly developing the resolution.
In Conclusion: 3.5/5
This is still mostly a satisfying conclusion to this arc, the final page with Dr. Sivana is definitely a treat, but it suffers from more flaws than the previous two issues. Still, there's plenty to like, so overall I don't feel too disappointed.
