Filler for an Already Slow-Moving Event
The Original Sin event, while good, has reminded me of just why I don't like events generally; there's way too many characters involved, situations feel very scattered and muddled, and they always seem to last a bit too long, extending it as far as possible in hopes of retaining a steady series to make a quick buck. And, while Original Sin has done a lot better than this, especially with the character development presented in last issue, this issue dive-bombs straight into the ground, bringing out the worst in what events can be.
Much of the issue feels like a lengthy recap after the hiatus the previous presented us. We have brief moments with Midas, who I find to be an obnoxiously boring and tedious villain, Nick and everyone on the space station, and the Avengers while they remind us stuff that we already know. Fury presents something that would feel like a game-changer if the answer wasn't already dangling in front of us via one of the upcoming new series. And the ending feels rather tedious, with unfulfilling fights and conversation that leads to absolutely nowhere. Other than getting just about all the characters in one place, which is perhaps worse than focusing on a focal group, almost nothing happens until the end, and even then it's nothing overly amazing or surprising.
I'm hoping this is just a stumble along the way, as the series still has a lot to offer and, more importantly, answer. But this issue you could pretty much skip if you haven't already picked it up.
